This is my first time posting in this forum. I have a very tricky situation here with my
2006 Cayman S
gen 1.
The problem started with my key being stuck into the ignition and I have to towed the car to a shop to get it fix. They replaced the immobilizer but were unable to reprogram my key due to the aftermarket stereo installed in the car. The immobilizier recognize my key and i was able to start and drive the car out of the shop. So for the next week, i was trying to track down my original stereo and bring it back to reprogram. But then, my battery went flat and when i try to start the spoiler rise up and windows half open. I then replaced the flat battery with a new one, but were unsuccessful in starting the car. it gives me the typical psm error and a bunch of error lights you usually see when doing a battery replacement. The radiator fan is blowing in full force and panel shows the press the "depress brake pedal" and "depress clutch pedal" message when I turn the ignition. The car can detect the brake pedal when press, but the clutch pedal is a different story. I even changed a brand new clutch micro switch and hardwire it after failing to detect. I think the problem doesn't reside in the clutch pedal mechanism failing and got something to do with the electronic or
ecu
. I really need some input on this very frustrating matter regarding the electronic issues. I also don't think the aftermarket radio is the problem since I can drive the car out the shop, just without the key button functioning.
Thank you all in advance
did the troubles start after you put in the after market stereo? Your post is unclear in that regard
Thank you Mr. Bond for pointing it out. Let me revise my pose. The aftermarket stereo was already in the car when i bought it. I was able to leave the shop after they change my immobilizer, just that the buttons on the key would not work since they need to be reprogram with the factory stereo.
I would agree then that the issue is in the "programing of the key " which needs to be in concert with the stereo and
ecu
messaging. I am not sure of the resolve - I would think that a Porsche dealer could resolve the issue . Sorry I cannot be of more help
I don't have a 987.1 but on my 987.2, the buttons on the key Fob (unlocking doors/frunk/trunk) has nothing to do with the radio. However, mine was the stock
CDR-30
. A week after taking delivery I replaced it with a
Pioneer
headunit. Maybe
PCM
has more integration with the security electronics? But regardless, you shouldn't need the original radio. I'd take it to a dealer. Sounds like something got zapped when your key got locked in the ignition. That is often the result of battery failure. If necessary they should be able to diagnose and maybe code around the issue.
I have a 987.1 with an aftermarket radio. I had needed a 2nd key and it required the dealer to program it. The aftermarket stereo was a non issue. It sounds like the key needs to be programmed to the immobilizer.. At any rate, I searched before taking it to a Porsche dealer, and no other repair shop seemed to have the ability. Porsche did it in about 15 minutes.
Good luck
