Suggestion

The main thing, that I am told however is that the setup will never work as well as on a turbo unless you use all turbo parts for the abs.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You guys were kind enough to post part numbers for the wheel carriers hubs etc that I needed to put TT brakes on my 1999 C2. They are on and I now want to do the rear. Does anyone have a parts list? Thanks. Alex

POST 2Original post

Hi Alex. Sorry, but I bought a kit and don't therefore have the numbers. FWIW, you don't need to switch anything in the rear (ie: no wheel carriers). If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't put all that weight on the rear - rather just put on rear red calipers.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The bolt holes for the stock rear calipers do not match the TT. I think that I will need new rear caliper carriers. However, I like your suggestion about getting stock red calipers. If anyone has stock red rear calipers and would like to trade for TT rears, let me know. I will throw in the TT rotors and lines. Alex

POST 4Original post

Alex, The TT/GT3 Mk 1 rear calipers should just be a bolt-on, at least they were on my 99 C2. I'll check the part numbers for you tonight when I get home. Karl

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Karl-- My rear calipers are part #996352426/5. They are bigger than my stock front calipers. Let me know if you find the part # onyours. Alex

POST 6Original post

Alex, Those are the correct TT rear caliper part numbers. 996.352.425.60 is the left side and 996.352.426.60 is the right. They should bolt right up to the 996 rear wheel upright. The TT and the 996 use the same rear upright. Karl

POST 7Original post

don't try to put tt brakes on front and stock brakes on the back. it will not be a good match as you have stronger brakes in front and the back are not balanced accordingly. The back should fit fine, i have tt brakes all around and they went it easy in the back.

POST 8Original post

"don't try to put tt brakes on front and stock brakes on the back. it will not be a good match as you have stronger brakes in front and the back are not balanced accordingly." the 996 already comes with "unbalanced" larger front and smaller rears. the front do the overwhelming majority of the work. given you don't change any of the computer programing or master cylinder, you can't make an argument the car is even set up for the "balanced" 13" front and rear TT brakes. btw, these brakes on a 996 w/out upgrading to stickier or larger tires will reduce braking performance. this isn't due to higher unsprung weight (though it most certainly does hurt), but instead because the brakes cause the ABS to come on way earlier. iow, you exceed the grip of your tires much quicker with these brakes. they were made for the porkier 996 TT which also has larger contact patches.

POST 9Original post

Perhaps someone could explain this to me, but doesn't the C2 stop faster than the TT or C4S with the smaller brakes, due to the significantly lighter weight. Why would you need to go with the larger TT brakes which add unsprung weight and cost a very large sum of money, if the car already stop/brakes better than the TT or C4S. I would think that straight line stopping would correlate to ability to shed speed through braking when entering into a corner, or am I just totally off base here?

POST 10Original post

better stopping and no fade. Yes you would be adding more unsprung weight esp. if they do weight more. If you are going to do it do it right, do both front and rear and find out what diameter master is used stock and replace with correct if different size. The main thing, that I am told however is that the setup will never work as well as on a turbo unless you use all turbo parts for the abs. this is the main reason why it only will stop a bit better but never as good from many lengthy conversations.

POST 11Original post

btw I mean as it should or could as a complete system that is 100% turbo. A good way to do it would be to find a wrecked turbo and gut it.

POST 12Original post

spr, thanks for the response...that's what i was trying to say about doing a 100% brake upgrade and not just the front.
