If that comes back clean, should I be concerned that the underbody is missing that or is it not a big deal?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

I'm considering buying a 07 Cayman S for some tracking and autocross. I found a very nice looking one with clean title, etc. However, I learned that the plastic aero underbody had been removed. I'm getting a PPI done by Porsche. If that comes back clean, should I be concerned that the underbody is missing that or is it not a big deal? Thanks!

POST 2Original post

underbody is mainly for airflow dynamics and some protection, not sure it would matter unless MPG is a concern or you are off roading or tracking. MY opinion -but would not really dissuade me from a clean PPI purchase

POST 3Original post

Thanks. I will be tracking so I do want to replace it. Just curious if that a removal is ever a sign of something more nefarious in the usage history.

POST 4Original post

I will say this, it certainly points to an owner less fastidious than every member I read about here. I don't think an enthusiast tossing low mileage coils would stand for a missing shield. I would wager almost everyone here would have that on order as soon as they knew. So in that sense it would make me wonder how vigilant the PO was on all other maintenance. However, since you're investing in a PPI that should bring you some level of comfort.

POST 5Original post

Agree with Boris. I'd be very curious why the panels were removed. Maybe a Carfax would give more detailed history.

POST 6Original post

If it was in an accident removal of that shield might have come into play. I can assure you from experience that would be simple to lose at a body shop, not my friend's but a lot of other shops for sure. A PPI will never inspect the body as carefully as a future owner can either.
