Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Liqui Moly has an oil additive that helps cure noisy (sticky) lifters, but cannot remember which one is the one that I used on my 987, it works great..
Leading evidence: 'Use on my 987' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'lifter' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check connections between air intake' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suspected cause
Agree, injector or probably a lifter that’s at idle oil thirsty…drive it’ll go away…

Check all connections between air intake to throttle body too.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey all, I started up my 08
Cayman S
today to a lot of vibration while it was warming up. It felt like someone was bumping the car. Rpms weren’t jumping crazy or anything, but the feeling was way more than usual. It leveled off and smoothed out after about 30s. I did notice a tapping noise when I walked around the car on the passengers side at idle. I’m doing some touch up work, and haven’t driven it in about 2 weeks.
Here’s a video of it at idle. It’s still not up to temp.

The tapping noise is pretty normal after sitting. Drive it around a little and make another video… not sure about the rough idle, I’m not hearing that tho.
Thanks! Yea I’ll have to get it out after painting. The engine was already replaced for bore scoring in 2014, so it would be crazy for it to happen again right?!
Doesn't sound at all the same to me. You have a light tap.. perhaps a noisy injector or a lifter that hasn't fully pumped up. This video has a bad sound.. something is wrong with it that isn't simple or cheap.

If you had bore scoring, the exhaust and rear bumper cover would probably be all soot covered.. oil consumption would be the

These motors are great but they can really $uck…. Rule of thumb, don’t let them idle. Soon as the high idle drops, drive it (normally). There isn’t full capacity oil being pressured into the motor at idle, flat 6’s do not like that…the government does!

Funny thing - I was using Pensotin 5W-40 in my '09 2.9L engine.. it started up perfectly quiet. I switched at my last oil change to LubroMoly 5W-40, and there is a slight short tap on cold engine startup now. Needless to say,
next
change I'm going back to the Pensotin. I went with the LubroMoly since so many people are using it, and FCP sells a nice oil change kit with it.. I asked them about making up a kit with the LubroMoly and they said they'd be happy to do so.
I use Pentosin in both of my
Porsche
’s and have never had any issues. My Cayenne has over 300,000 miles if that says anything.

Rough Idle could be a MAF going out. I had to replace mine around 100k miles. Maybe give it a good clean first. Check all connections between air intake to throttle body too.
My previously owned
987.1
and several others I've been around had the exact same sound esp. after sitting for a while. Lifter tick was what I always heard, but I went ahead and did an oil analysis from BlackStone for peace of mind. Report came back clean which would def. have shown any issues with bore-scoring starting. And I agree with another replier who thinks the sound of your car, and the one w bore scoring are like night and day difference.
