Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

So i suspect you will have to remove the door card just the once to do all the repair work :?:
Leading evidence: 'Repair work :?' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair work :?' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I have known people strip down the lock and replace the microswitches.

Richard if far more knowledgeable than me, but if you have a leaking door membrane and someone has replaced the window regulator, then they will have damaged it and not replaced it, hence the leak, as these membranes are £40 each!

Use a wallpaper roller to push the new door card adhesive in place, reduces the risk of tearing the new membrane.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi All,
My window (after a sharp frost) now does not work properly (2000 996). It drops when I pull the handle but as soon as I let the handle go it raises again when the door is open.
The car thinks its closed as the 'door open dong' stops as soon as I let the handle go to get out with the lights on. Sometimes the interior lights stay on with the door shut, leading me to not being able to lock the bloomin' thing.
Plus it has never gone all the way down, it leaves an inch above the window rubber poking out, passenger side is fine.
Any Ideas?
PS. both the bottom of the door carpets get soaking wet. I think I need to take the door panel off and have a good look. How do you take the door panel of (air bags a problem?)?
Thanks in advance
Tim
Tim, cant help with the window, but wet door carpets is a commomn problem. The door membranes fail and need replacing, in fact doing mine this weekend. I got the process for removing the door panels from this site, do a search for wet door. The parts numbers are 996.555.831 and 996.555.832, just remember when you order them to advise if you have the Bose upgraded sound system as there are 2 different types. If you have the speakers in the door or the extra door bin, they are the same membrane, just the Bose sytem is different.
Hope this helps :?:
Apart from the water leak, I expect you have two issues. The door lock is most likely to be a faulty microswitch in the door lock assembly.
The window not going all the way down is likely that a new window regulator has been fitted at some time, and they fitted a Boxster one. There is a stop which can be moved to a lower position for the 996.

Yes, you have to take the door panel off to get at the lock mechanism. There are 7 microswitches in the door. One on the inside handle, one on the outside handle, and 5 in the lock assembly. If your window drops by pulling the inside and outside handles, then it won't be the handle switches.
Inside the door lock there are 5 switches as I said. These are:
Key lock input
Key unlock input
Door Locked signal
Door Unlocked signal
Door Opened/Closed signal
What tends to happen (and it is very common) is that a switch fails or sticks. In your case it sounds like the door opened/closed switch may be the problem, as it can't sense if the door is open (hence the window goes back up when you release the lever).
I have known people strip down the lock and replace the microswitches. They are a standard size, and if you are handy with a soldering iron it is the cheapest way to do it. A complete lock assembly is about £80-100+VAT, depending on the model.
Job Done!
Took the lock apart to find the door open/closed micro switch (that works on a cam) was not making good contact. Replaced it with one from Maplin (£1.99) and it works perfectly.
Thanks for all your help. Sorry no pics as wife had camera, but if you need help just pm me.
