Hello Folks.... When i bought my car 3 months ago i knonw that i would have to replace the AOS...for that reason i paid a lot less for the car...anyway this is another story. Today i have had the AOS replaced at an independent Porsche garage not far from where i'm living. How many hours the asked for the AOS replacement....3.4 hours and they gaved me back the old one...not bad at all because 2 weeks ago i called the Porsche Dealer and they asked 8 hours at $124/h...$992.00 just for the job.... By the same time they fixed the aluminum coolant line that goes from the rear to the front radiator...Now no more leak.... I was wondering how the independent can do the job in a little more then 3 hours and the dealer in 8 hours...if you know the answer please let me know. Robert 2000 996

The Porsche dealers go by the book. They have a fixed hourly rate of course and a fixed amount of hours which each job goes by. Stay away from the stealership at almost all costs. This is a perfect example of how the system works. There is really no need to charge you 8 hours when the job will literally be done in 3!

Like most things in life, it pays to shop around. When I had a wheel bearing replaced about 6 months ago I got quotes from some locally recommended indies as well as the dealer. The dealer was the cheapest, got me in right then and there and also provided a free (POS) loaner for the afternoon. I do, however, avoid them like the plague for parts as they mark most things up nearly 100% over what I can get it at Suncoast or Sunset.
