Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Chaps, Is it straightforward changing suspension springs on a 996 (1998)? I want to keep the dampers but just put some OEM springs on to raise the height of my car (phoned up a couple of places and they said this was fine). Recognise I would need to get the geo done after, but if I can save paying 4-5hrs labour at a workshop and then the same again when I put my original springs back when I come to sell the car - it would obviously make an expensive job relatively inexpensive. Would be doing this at home, so have basic tools - I'm hoping outside of normal sprocket sets (+ usual jacking equipment to get the car up) I would only need to get a spring compressor? Thanks

POST 2Original post

Raise the height??? Where are you going? Paris-Dakar???? :floor:

POST 3Original post

:floor: :floor: :floor: ... they must have some pretty big pot-holes round your way?

POST 4Original post

Seriously though, I would suggest leaving it to the professionals if you have never done it before. A loose spring from a compressor will dent your car at best and take your head off at worst.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Lol, it's currently 30mm lower than standard (GT3 kit with even lower suspension than m030) so is proving problematic over speed bumps. Saw a DIY guide, looks too much hassle so I'll just do the manly thing and pay someone to do it!!!

POST 6Original post

It 's not hard to do but the correct spring compressors are needed for safety's sake. Forget wire, tie wraps and rope you'll kill yourself! You can buy, borrow or hire these at least 3 are needed.
