1) Are the high mileage 993s just as bomb proof as the other aircooled 911s used to be, I remember people running 3.2s with over 175k on them without issue.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

First post on here after looking around in the past.
I've owned quite a few 911s in the past my last being a 993 but I sold that 10 years ago so am a bit out of touch.
I am looking to spend £14 - £15k on a weekend car and am torn between a high mileage (I know I'm looking at something over 120K) 993 or a lower mileage, early 996. So my questions are:
1) Are the high mileage 993s just as bomb proof as the other aircooled 911s used to be, I remember people running 3.2s with over 175k on them without issue. What should I look for on these cars other than good history and maintenance bills?
2) Are 996s as much of a minefield as I've read from the horror stories, if not what should you look out for, I read constantly about engine problems.
3) Anyone know of any good cars for sale at the moment?
Thanks in advance

As with most things you get what you pay for!
Its been said a number of times on here.
Its not the car your looking at buying but the car that you may spend £4K -£5k getting right in the first year if you get it wrong!
Have a look on autotrader. You seem to know cars reasonably well??
When you see one or 2 you like and feel are right for you put the links on here.
There will be lots of helpful advice aimed at a more specificarea that may be of more benifit to you!
Hope you find that perfect car.
Also GET AN INSPECTION ON ANYTHING BEFORE BUYING IT!!
Don't know cars massively well but I've had 911s in the past BC (= before kids!)
I must have always been lucky as I've always bought privately and never had any big spends but my earlier cars just had be careful of clutch, oil leaks/cooler pipes and rust. My 993 was only 2 years old when I bought it and it was fantastic and troublefree! Just seems cars have become more complex these days and more of a minefield or is it just forums like this allow us to share experiences and therefore better informed?
993s are probably as bomb proof if not even more so the the old 3.2 but bombproof doesn't precude numerous top end rebuilds, clutches and flywheels, no airconetc.
However compared to the 996 its like driving a car from another era. Not bad (I love 993s and 964s ) but very old fashioned in feel and kit. Literally classic v modern...you take your choice.
Sure 996s have their problems but most are now soluble from specialists.
My engine had the IMS go at 90k and so I had a rebuilt and much improved Autofarm engine fitted and now its as good if not better than newand should be good for another 90k+
Get an inspection and a careful check of the engine. The rest of the car is pretty strong and reliable
Above all it is a great car to drive for fun or everyday
