Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, After having a succession of automatic luxury barges (Merc E55 and RR Vogue V8 ) I'm desperately missing the driver involvement I so loved. Whilst I get a lot of thrills from a couple of motorbikes (Ducati 996SPS & Suzuki Hayabusa) they are very much fair weather toys. I've been saving my pennies and will be in the market for a 02/03 996 C4S or 01/02 996 Turbo (both manual) in the next few months, fingers crossed. Would like to do a few track days and the 'Ring' once I have one. So, watch this space and hopefully I'll have an update soon..... In the meantime, I've been looking through this site and it has so much info, it's great!!! BTW, during my search for some info I stumbled across this beauty..... http://www.design911.co.uk/blog/index.php/tag/porsche-996tt/ Think I'll be looking elsewhere personally..... If any of you have comments or suggestions regarding any of the above please feel free to give me your two cents.... :thumb:

Re: Newbie hopefully joining the 996 brigade sometime soon.. Yuch! I think I just puked up in my mouth a little! As for buying one, it sounds like you're well into your research. One piece of advice that I will say is that a PPI is a must. One it can help identify any nasty surprises, and even if none are found it's likely that something minor will be uncovered which you can use as a negotiation point, so they tend to pay for themselves really. Good luck!

Gorgeous, great craftsmanship. But why do half a job, surely gold wheels and a gold roof too? :floor:

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey, you dont want to make it look gawdy....

POST 6Original post

Amazing just how much money some people will spend to prove they have no taste or style. Truly awful creation.

POST 7Original post

Welcome Habanero, You are following the path I have trod for the past couple of months though I opted for 2WD partly to save weight, mechanical complexity and luggage space, and partly for the 'purity' of the original Porsche RWD experience. See and drive as many as possible, there are a lot of differences from car to car as you might expect. Good luck with your search - Mine arrives in 'five sleeps' now

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I dont want to get laughed off the forum, but I have seen some really nice C2's for sale, but was always worried the RWD Porker would kill me. I'm hoping 4WD of the C4, C4S or Turbo would keep me sunny side up, as it were...

POST 9Original post

Not laughing. My thoughts exactly, now three months of partnership of an 04 C4S. AWD handy on the recent sheet ice.

POST 10Original post

I guess some of us are RWD lovers and some aren't.

POST 13Original post

Just buy one dude!! And the 2 wheel drive is fab, but needs watching in the wet. However, the odd track day under the guise of a decent driver teaches you enough for it never to be a problem - assuming you always keep your driving within your own limits!!

POST 14Original post

I think if it's a second car - then 2 and maybe even GT would be fun. I only want one car. No kids - 95% of the time I'm the only person in it. When it snowed I drove to and from work in my 996. When the roads were sheet ice I drove to and from work in my 996. Sometimes I'm cornering at speed whilst on the phone discussing complicated work stuff. It's my first high performance car. 4 seemed a bit more practical. For the 2 wheel / RWD purists - is the modern 4 Turbo "wrong" - or does the TT grunt make up for the girlie pampering of the awd?

POST 15Original post

In the ice and snow I'll take my Skoda truck, that's what it's there for. Given that, 4WD brings me no advantages and costs a bit in terms of performance and complexity. It does make more sense on the turbo. After all we are down at just a bit over 300 bhp and the two rubber rollers at the back are plenty man enough to cope with that. The prime benefit of 4WD is, after all, traction
