Though I have used the search button, I was wondering whether disconnecting the battery and leaving it for a while might also help to remove this irritating problem.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi
I have just had a new indicator mechanism put on the car (it was not clicking itself off once the steering wheel was turned back the other way) but now the airbag light is on. I imagine that part of the column sensed it had been dismantled and decided to warn me.
The garage in question, top lads, say that it won't need a new ring (the metallic plate thingymejig) and say it's simply a case of clearing the fault code. They have tried to remove the message via a diagnostic system and have, so far, failed to get rid of it. They have now referred me to another garage who have a different system and will apparently do it free of charge. This said, I am working so much at the moment, I am struggling to get over (a warning light aint the end of the world - everything is now operational as normal). It would thus be far quicker to do it myself.
My question is, if it simply is a case of clearing a fault code, can I remove it myself - i.e. by resetting the car and disconnecting the battery for a few hours? Furthermore, is this advisable?
Secondly, I currently have this stupid CD changer 'error message'. It appeared a few weeks ago and, after a few attempts at taking the magazine out and putting it back in again, it started to work again. This time, it isn't shifting. Though I have used the search button, I was wondering whether disconnecting the battery and leaving it for a while might also help to remove this irritating problem.
Ahhh, new car niggles eh?! That aside, no probs guys and really enjoying 996TT ownership. What a motor!!!
You won't clear the airbag fault light by disconnecting the battery. It needs a Porsche Diagnostic Tester, or a good diagnostic machine like the Bosch KTS (provided they know which pins to connect). If you are anywhere near me, I'd be happy to do it for you.
I'm not sure if the airbag system will be active with the light on. It would fail an MOT, by the way.
No idea about the CDC I'm afraid. These things seem to have a mind of their own. Disconnecting the battery might work, but for how lomg.....
Cheers mate.
Had a flat battery today and it must have sorted the cd issue out.
TO DO LIST:
1) Clear airbag light with Porsche diagnostic Tester (I am in Manchester by the way but thanks for the offer!)
2) Sort out the battery problem. It went flat in three days. I know it's cold but this simply aint good enough. I have twaled through enough threads having searched and the more I read, the more I am confused.
3) Drive car which now has four new tyres and sparkly newly refurbed powdercoated wheels.
I'm told the whole system is disabled if the light is on. Mine is permanently on since I changed to a Cup wheel. Simple solution is to put a black sticker over the light - passed the MOT no problem
The proper solution is to remove all airbags + the airbag ECU. It saves about 20Kg too. Just in the process of being done now.
Hi,
We would knock the light out for you...

The airbag system would more than likely still work as a friend of mine crashed his golf and all air bags deployed even though the light was on. Presume they work similar.
