Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use car in the snow' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Test due' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The Conti for example is a top performing tire in this test due to its wet handling performance.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Tires have always been a bit of a mystery to me given the different way they perform on different cars and different condtions. The Conti for example is a top performing tire in this test due to its wet handling performance. Wet handling does me no good in New Mexico. I'm hoping for Michelins on my Cayman.
The Tire Rack supplied the tires and grunt.

I've always switched between
Pirelli P Zero
's and
Michelin
Pilot Sports... The
Michelin
's never lasted long (probably due to my driving) but are very sticky and not too noisy. The
Pirelli
's are a nice middle ground: quieter, yet also perform very well and last long.
I just put the new
Conti
's on my
BMW
540i/6 and I love them. Better handling than my prior P-Zero's and much quieter. Also, my experience with
Conti
's has indicated they last a good bit longer. That being said, I have not tried the PS2's.

In my experience on my911, the
Conti
's wear a long time, but when they loose about half their tread, they suddenly become very noisy. The PS2's don't last quite so long, but have a somewhat softer feel and are much quieter.
The C&D story rates the
Conti
's high because of their wet handling and shows them compromised in the dry. Since the annual rainfall here is under 10' it seems like a poor trade-off for me. Anyone notice any of those traits?
The Contis were routinely criticized on the Audi S4 board and I quickly changed them for
Michelin Pilot Sport
A/S tires since I use the car in the snow. Ihad Pilot Sport PS2 on my
BMW
Z4
and loved them. When I put the Contis back on the S4 I was pretty impressed with them the second time around and am not that surprised that they did as well as they did in the test. I read somewhere that all Porsches come with Michelins (I think it was a
Michelin
ad) but an article on the
Cayman
indicated that it will use 3 different tires. The 4
launch
cars I have seen all had Michelins on them.
I have heard that the early
Caymans
will all come with Michelins.
Porsche
is to switch to Contis and the unnamed third supplier when volumes increase. I hope that's right.
I am counting on having Michelins with a November build.
Pirelli
is the likely third tire possibility for the
Cayman
, once they meet the
Porsche
specification for handling, performance and wear. PAG probably likes having three different tire suppliers to keep the OE tire prices as low as possible.
I had
Conti
's on my A4 and absolutely hated them. Felt like the car went from all-wheel-drive to no-wheel-drive. Switched over to P-Zero Nero's and haven't looked back. There was a world of difference. I also did enjoy the Pilot Sport PS2's when I got them with the rims. but, after the Contis, I figured I try the P-Zeros cause they were a bit cheaper than the Pilots. So far, after 5k, they handle great and are not noisy.
I had the Continentals on my 2002 turbo when it was delivered, and had the same experiemce as Ubermench, as they wore, they got more noisy and a lot less sticky, not that they were very sticky to begin with. I've been through 1.5 sets of PS2s since, and I think the Michelins are simply amazing tires. They don't wear as long as the
Conti
's - I've done a whole season of autocross plus a 7,300 mile trip from California to the East and back this year on two rear sets and one front set. I also think they're great in the rain... I did a DE at Sears Point last February in the pouring rain and was hitting more than 90 mph on the straight between the carousel and turn 7 and felt no hydroplaning. When i switched from the Contis to the Ps2s, my autocross times went down about 3 seconds on average. They're very sticky for a street tire.
The
Caymans
I've seen at the various Bay Area dealers all have the PS2s on them. I hope mine comes with them, too.

I don't know what the standard 18's are, but the one at my showroom had 19' Carrrera S wheels with
Michelin Pilot Sport
tires, 235/35 ZR19 in the front and 265/35 ZR19 in the rear.
THey did look mighty nice.
