Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Check alignment' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check alignment' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

After a false start first time round, I've now got a re-covered Alcantara wheel with 2mm of padding and red stitching that's superb and ready to go. :driving:
The fitting procedure (elsewhere on the site) is straightforward but does anyone know what torque is required for the 24mm nut holding the steering wheel and the Torx bolts on the rear?
Pics will follow once fitted, anyone interested in getting their wheel re-covered in Leather or Alcantara and with or without padding let me know.
From the manual:
1. Refit the steering wheel with the wheels in the straight-ahead position or in accordance with the marking so that the upper spokes of the steering wheel are horizontal. Caution: Do not trap the cable of the contact unit.
2. Fit hexagon nut with spring washer and tighten to 46 Nm (34 ftlb).
3. Install driver's airbag unit. Use new fastening screws. Tightening torque: Tightening torque 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
4. Check horn for operation
Alcantara Wheel all fitted, so much better than the half Carbon wheel I've removed which was way too hard
I found a procedure elsewhere on the site and added a couple of bits of info as per Richards post, took 10 minutes.
You will need:
T30 Torx socket
Torx Screwdriver
24mm Socket
Short socket extension
Socket Wrench
Torque Wrench (with a range including 10 and 46NM)
1. Set ignition to position 1 (essential to prevent alarm and airbag warning light activating!)
2. Disconnect Battery
3. Turn the wheel (90 degrees clockwise and then 90 degrees counterclockwise from straight ahead position) to access and remove the plugs and Torx screws from the rear of the steering boss (T30 Torx)
4. Slowly withdraw the airbag and disconnect the electrical connectors (Note relative clips and positions)
5. (Tiptronic/Cruise Control Only) Disconnect the component connectors to the steering wheel
6. Straighten the wheel and mark the straight ahead position of the wheel to the steering column/hub
7. Undo the nut that holds the steering wheel and retrieve the washer (24mm)
8. Carefully remove wheel making sure the wires pass safely through the aperture in the hub.
9. Align and fit the new steering wheel, making sure the wires pass through the aperture in the hub and don't get trapped.
10. Check alignment and tighten the nut (46NM)
11. Refit and tighten airbag retaining screws and plugs, make sure the assembly doesn't pull to one side (10NM)
12. Reconnect the Battery.
13. Start car and check for warning lights
