Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Snowed in here, so car is tucked up in the garage. Cleaning the sport wheels is as awkward as expected. The standard steering wheel is quite rough to touch and I would rather have leather. The auto climate never seems to switch off the fan. Everyone who sees the car comments how fantastic it looks. Many people assume its the new 911.

POST 3Original post

<span lang="EN-US" style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">On my fourth day now, everyone who sees the car comments how incredible white looks. One of my co-workers owns a 996 4S and couldn't stop looking at the car. At one point he squatted next tothe left rear wheel and justgazed at the wheel and the body arch above and kept muttering “damn”. My neighbor in the parking garage at work pulled up in his red 360 and couldn't stop commenting on my car; though when I offered to trade he declined (not that I would really want the 360, the owners that I know always complain of how often they have to go to the garage)...
<span lang="EN-US" style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">Day to day after about 100 miles...
<span lang="EN-US" style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">Lots of brake dust on the wheels already, especially the rear. The car will be washed before the end of the year. I've found the sport steering wheel to be perfect, am happy I skipped the smooth leather option. Interior is very comfortable, sport seats fit like a glove, CDR-24 is adequate (but who's buying this car to listen to that
music?). The ultimate stamp of approval is that my wife is comfortable sitting in it (though she keeps muttering 'be careful' when I scoot around town clearly in violation of some law). The sonic grunt from the engine in 2nd gear from about 3000 when the pedal is depressed more than 30% is intoxicating. I can't wait to get this thing on a wide open road and let it rip.
<span lang="EN-US" style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">Clutch is much lighter than I expected but the travel is on the longish side. Shift action is perfect, simply perfect(I have no idea how Clarkson mistook R for 1 unless he leaned on the shifter). Steering is spot on, can't say that I've experienced the on-center deadness I've seen in a few reviews. Brakes (standard) are superlative and inspire immense confidence. All in all the combination of handling, shifting, and acceleration are surgical in their precision. Haven't switched on the PASM or turned off PSM yet as it's utterly pointless in town.
<span lang="EN-US" style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">The most negative comment I have is that the analog speedometer side of the pod seems to be tilted slightly farther away than the temp/fuel side and set ever so slightly to the left. I can only assume this is intentional as this info is redundant with the digital speedo under the tach. This feeling is reinforced from a comment I ready someplace from one of the Porsche guys who said that the only reason they still include an analog speedo in any of their cars is because people look at it as a gauge of maximum potential speed. Personally, I'd loose the analog speedo and add oil level and oil temp gauges. Mileage has been poor (as expected - city driving and a new engine), averaging about 15 MPG at the moment. Have had a few blasts past 4000 but have mostly kept below 4000 (pretty easy in the city).
<span lang="EN-US" style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">The real test of patience will come in two weeks when I head off to the mountains for a three day weekend and have to resist the urge of really opening up. Given my travel plans over the next month I expect to get to 1500 miles by mid-February. After that, car goes back to the dealer, change of oil, final checks and adjustments, and then the car starts living as it was meant to.
Thanks for taking the time Friedman, can't wait to see a white one in person. I've always liked white cars but hesitated on the Cayman but WOW!

POST 5Original post

Thanx for all the insight to what we can expect to have once the car is in our hands. SURE do like the white on the car..... (thats the color I ordered as well.)

POST 7Original post

Santa Fe, my thoughts exactly! I suspect that once you actually take possesion all thoughts of surfing the Cayman Club for everything Cayman are completely overcome by the experience of having the real thing. However, you'd think by now that we'd be seeing hundreds of pictures of new Caymans with their new owners grinning from ear to ear.

POST 8Original post

Yes I too am suprised we don't have more live reports. Friedman, thanks a lot for the report. You do very good writing. Distances in different countrys always amaze me. You are talking about 100 miles after four days and I'll do more than 60 just getting home from the dealer. And a round trip to get gas will be 20 -25 miles.

POST 9Original post

SF, I am thankful to not have to make the commute any longer now that I am getting the Cayman. I woulda been 100 mi ea way for work (course not sure I woulda sprung for the Porsche for that) but at least now the distance won't be as bad (40 mi round trip for work.....about 80 each way for the dealer).

POST 10Original post

My normal commute is measured in feet not miles - ain't that nice. Full Disclosure: I have an option on a Carrera S just in case there are lots of negative reports from Cayman owners. I don't expect any and plan to let the optiongo but just in case....however it will be here before my Cayman so I'm back to a faith based purchase. I can't let all you guts have all the fun.

Temperatures To Plunge <div id="story_date_stamp">Updated: 16:30, Wednesday December 28, 2005</div> Britain is bracing itself for more icy blasts and heavy snow with even colder conditions moving in. Workers have already been greeted with freezing and icy weather as they return to work after the Christmas break. Kent, eastern England and eastern Scotland have experienced the most severe weather conditions. Some areas of Kent were reported to have received as much as 12 inches of snow Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, Norfolk, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire have also suffered persistent snow showers. The snow is causing severe disruption on the roads and railways. South Eastern and Thameslink train services were among those hit by the wintry conditions, while some major routes in Kent suffered closure or lane closure. Hastings, Ramsgate, Dover and Ashford were among Kent towns affected by rail disruption. No bus replacement services ran as road conditions were too poor. More travel chaos is predicted as temperatures plunge to as low as -10C overnight. The RAC and police have warned people in the worst-hit areas to avoid unnecessary journeys. Struggling motorists have also been hit by petrol stations running out of fuel following the Buncefield oil depot fire at Hemel Hempstead. However, oil companies say there are good supplies and there is no need to panic buy. PA WeatherCentre spokesman Philip Brown said: 'A lot of people could wake up to snow on Friday morning, but then a second front will move in, bringing rain and warmer weather.' The weather also affected sporting fixtures with a number of football matches postponed and race meetings at Newbury and Catterick abandoned. http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-1207299,00.html Edited by - mpollard on 12/28/2005 8:58:26 PM

POST 13Original post

hi everyone, Sorry, but the weather has been dreadful and it has been Christmas! Family, eating, drinking and everything else besides has put paid to few miles on the road. In fact there hasn't been a decent driving day in the last 2 weeks, with freezing roads and fog, and when you find a non-frozen road, it is damp and salt-covered, making any kind of press-on driving impossible. As far as the car goes, all is good. Still amazed that during a 75mph cruise you can get 30mpg consistantly. it's refined at those speeds too. Still need to get some squeeks sorted from the rear, but in typical fashion they seem to come and go. One day a squeek from one side and a rattle from the other, the next, silence! It may take some time to resolve. The engine is really loosening now, at 1500 miles. the gear-change is fantastic, and I still can't get over how close 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th are. It makes the pull into trebel figures feel relentless, even if you choose to short-shift. Grip, even in these conditions is prodigeous, both front and back. In a straight line you can get the wheels to scrabble in 1st and second, and even get the rear to push out slightly (in a straight line, if you know what I mean), a few degrees, before the PSM cuts in very gently. It certainly doesn't cut in and kill all power like the DSC does in on the BMW. In fact you have to see the light flash on the dash to know that the electronics have done anything at all. It just feels like the car has hooked up and taken off. I'll try to get up early and get some pics tomorrow, thought he car will still be dirty. The outside tap and hose is frozen solid!
