144K miles.
A little background: I recently (back in may 22) fixed a broken plenum. Since then ive had a rough cold start. Not horrible but annoying, goes away after it the first rpm drop after a minute.
And ever since I've had this (past two years) its had a rough shift from 2nd to 3rd but only when in Automatic mode. When shifting manually it was smooth. I've read this a few times in the forums too.
Last week I started to notice some very sporadic surging maybe in 4th gear at 2500-3000 rpm like really light loss of power for less than a second and then repeat quickly enough to be noticeable. I don't recall what the rpms were doing at that point. This happened only 2-3 times so far. Now this week i noticed that when i shift from park to R or to D I'm getting a whirring noise (almost a slight rotational scraping noise) kind of sounds like rhythmic ticking in a video i captured, but in person more like something lightly grinding, not constantly but like two uneven surfaces rotating and scraping only at when the uneven parts touch.
I bought this used at 120K it had a transmission replacement at 90K or 110K i cant remember and i cant find the paperwork at the moment.
So this weekend i did a transmission fluid change and new filter. Dropped the pan and it didn't look as bad as i was expecting it to. i didn't see any metal shavings or shimmery stuff. The magnets had a decent amount of grime on them.
I followed the
pelican parts
write up and filled, ran the transmission to warm temp (30 min or so) and topped off then ran through the gears and topped off some more (x2) . Closed it up and started it back up and I'm still getting the same whirring/grinding noise when i shift (with the brake pedal) into R and D.
I don't notice the noise when I'm driving, and shifting seems a little off too but i may just be hyper sensitive to everything its doing now.
At the same time I also noticed my right gear thumb Up steering wheel button is not always changing the gears. (seems really strange) the left one works as expected.
Any ideas?

The only takeaway I have from your writing is this, repair of a broken plenum should not result in cold start difficulties.
Agreed, but thought I'd mention it.
Update: took the car to the mechanic. (after changing the trans fluid and filter) he said there were no codes but he reset the transmission? or something and said the shifting was fine now. The vibration i was worried about he says is from the motor and trans mounts. So i changed those out with these:
PRG
Taking the motor mount out was a pain because of the upper two bolts but swapping out the bushing with this one was easy. I just used a jigsaw to cut the existing bushing out. The new one slips right in (no need for a press) I was also able to install the trans mounts without removing the bracket, just removed the main bolt and the two side bolts in place. So far so good. shifting better and no more noise/vibration in when putting it into R or D. crossing my fingers. Forgot to mention that i did one more trans fluid change at the end since i was under the car and the plastic shield was off. I think one more fluid change at the next oil change and then ill feel better about it.
