The advice I have read so far regarding these is that it is wise to get these cleaned every other service...

I think this has been happening only over the last couple of days as this coincides with a heavy amount of condensation I have been experiencing for 2 days running (and a heavy amount of rain)

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Calling all Porsche Oracles... I have a soggy problem!! I have just sat my daughter in the back seat of my 2002 996 and she has complained of a very wet bottom! Being only 4yrs old I was fearing the worst in terms of a little 'accident', but it is clear that isnt the case as is soaking, cold and not yellow!. I had previously removed the leather inserts from the buckets and it was this that she sat in. I think this has been happening only over the last couple of days as this coincides with a heavy amount of condensation I have been experiencing for 2 days running (and a heavy amount of rain) There are no obvious leaks from anywhere so I googled the issue and found a reference to roof drain outlets on the Cabriolet which can get blocked (See this link for the full explanation -http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=7791) Does anyone know if the coupe has the same 'roof drain outlets' and if this is the probable cause? Your help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance, Whalie

POST 3Original post

could it just be condensation or is it too much for that. Are the carpets at all wet/damp? Does the car have a sunroof? Sunroof is the most likely culprit in a coupe.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Many thanks for th couple of replies so far. No, it is more than damp it is more of a puddle! There is not a sunroof and no evidence of any leak whatsoever... Just a very wet passenger rear seat. If the coupe has the same roof drain outlets as the Cab then I am sure it must be a blockage on one of these drains! The advice I have read so far regarding these is that it is wise to get these cleaned every other service... Worst case scenario is that you dont notice the water build up and you blow the electrics!! Whalie

POST 5Original post

I was just about to post a very similar thread when I read this. I have an '04 Targa which lives outside and shortly after all the snow and cold weather I had a lot of condensation problems on the rear window. After a 2 hour drive from Worcs to London during which the condensation never properly cleared I decided to investigate properly. Removed rear seat leather inserts and found the carpet underneath was soaking. The carpet on the back of the seat backs, and the carpet/foam trim piece just behind them were also very damp. Checked the floor carpets (front and rear) and these seemed to be OK. Removed what I could take inside and have now got everything dried out. Despite some heavy rain have had no more problems. I wondered whether when the snow was sitting on the car roof I might have had frozen rear drains, and therefore any melt water was just going into the car somewhere at the back of the roof or bottom of the rear window (which opens on a Targa). Once the drains thawed, the blockage would be gone again, hence no more problems. Does that sound likely, and does anyone have a Targa-specific diagram of roof drains, or other top tips on preventing water ingress? Thanks all

POST 6Original post

I too have having condensation problems with my Targa. I cant find no wetness anywhere though. Before I take the car apart, are the Targa drains the same as the Carrera? Thanks in advance.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sorry I cannot comment on the Targa, but I would assume they be similar to the coupe if you are experiencing the same wetness in exactly the same place as me (my floorwells are dry too). Furthermore, I noticed my issues just after the snow and cold snap too, so yes this may be the issue! I am taking mine in to get this looked at this week and I will get them all flushed with air just as a precaution. I will make sure I update this forum with any observations. Cheers, Whalie
