Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi all, I hope you are all being safe in your Porsche ’s 😏 I have a quick question about the reversing sensors on the back of a 987 Cayman S . When I put the car in reverse whilst out shopping the car in reverse mode just made a long beep noise. It doesn’t normally do this and I was nowhere near any objects. Do you have any suggestions? My first thought is to wipe them just in case they are dirty, but that seems too easy.

POST 2Original post

Most likely a sensor has failed. Found this post on ********, With the engine off but car electrical on (key right before crank), you can put the car in reverse and walk to the rear bumper.....put your finger over the sensor and get your ear close to the sensor....you will literally hear a ticking sound. The one causing the problem will not click/tick. You can scrutinize that sensor and wiring. Check for messed up wiring or maybe even the plug is not pushed all the way in. You can also swap a sensor location on the harness and see if it follows or if the sensor itself is just completely dead (as they do just go bad sometimes). Think the sensor is like $120, but they come unpainted....so have to pay for that. Please ensure you put a chock behind your rear wheels if not on level ground. I am not sure if the use of the ebrake stops the parking aid from working.

POST 3Original post

Thankfully all I had to do was wipe the sensors. They didn’t look dirty to start with, but it worked. I’ll keep what you have said in mind though just in case it does come back soon. Many thanks 🙌🏻
