The only "difference" was the 987 uses a rod to connect the exterior door handle and the Cayenne used a cable/wire.

I'm beginning to wonder if all this is due to a faulty door control box, but I'm unclear where that might be.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi gang, As I sort through my passenger door in my 987.2 2010 Boxster ...something is definitely wrong. Per an earlier post where I had to do a "handover" procedure in my car using my PIWIS 2 , I had noticed the window drop issue not he passenger side. The passenger door window now does not go up/down slightly when opening the passenger door -- when you pull the both the interior and exterior door handles. Works fine on the driver's side. Something was wrong before this handover procedure where it wouldn't work with only the external door handle (interior handle was fine), but again -- now both interior and extra handles don't work and the passenger door window doesn't drop at all. Opening the door with the car alarmed doesn't set anything off. I went back in with the PIWIS today, and I generally couldn't get the passenger door to respond to tests. The door lights don't come on... and the window drop doesn't happen. However, the window switches work in the car and the door will lock/unlock. I can manually operate the door. That's about it. I'm beginning to wonder if all this is due to a faulty door control box, but I'm unclear where that might be. Having pored through forum threads, I'm sensing that it is incorporated into the door lock mechanism instead of a separate box (981 and newer)? If so, as it looks like the door lock mechanisms are all the same part number (even some VWs), is that all I need? Any thoughts, please let me know. Thanks!

POST 2Original post

Yeah, I had problems ( 987.1 ) with my drivers door window not operating correctly, swapped in a door lock mechanism from a cayenne I found at a local wrecker and boom, fixed!

POST 3Original post

Dynamite, @Apexhunter987 -- Thanks! Do I just need to match the lock mechanism part number (I think it's the same as in some VWs)...with a blue female connector...install it, and I'm done? This would be a huge help, particularly if the control unit and microswitches are all in the unit.

POST 4Original post

There's another thread here that discusses part numbers and a compatibility list incl R32's, GTi's, Toureg etc. Here are a couple of photos of the one i pulled from a 2010 Cayenne (white plug). The only "difference" was the 987 uses a rod to connect the exterior door handle and the Cayenne used a cable/wire. The receiver for the 987 rod and Cayenne cable is interchangeable though. You turn it 90 deg and it comes out so you just swap the rod receiver over to the new unit. Dead easy. No coding or anything required either so you'll very quickly know whether it has solved your problem or not.
