I'm hearing an occasional groan or creak from my brakes when I start from a stop. Seems to be happening on flat surfaces and inclines. (This is on a
987.2 Cayman
.) Sounds like old-school drum brakes to me. Does the "Hill hold" function use the emergency brake? Maybe the tension of those shoes needs to be adjusted? Anyone else have this? Thoughts and/or guidance would be appreciated.
Thanks,
George
Does it happen when the car is off if you press hard on the brake?
-Eric
You can make almost any car groan by slowly relaxing the brake pedal pressure from a stop, particularly on an incline or decline. It's merely the noise where the pads lose clamp force via reduced hydraulic pressure.
Eric - No, it does not happen if I press hard on the brake pedal when the car is off. If the car off and in neutral and I let the car roll, it does make the sound. As Boristhespyder noted, this is not surprising, as one can make most any car's brakes creak if one tries. However, I'm not trying to make his happen, it just does.
I've asked because I'm curious if this is something others hear on their cars as well. Is it normal? Starting to seem a little weird to me. The car stops fine and I'm not feeling any noticeable change in the pedal feel, etc. My current second car is a VW Golf wagon and it does not do this.
I definitely have that groan/creak on my
2011 987.2
. Hear it coming from the rear passenger side. Asked my shop about it when I first got the car and they either couldn’t reproduce it or didn’t try too hard as I hear it 9 times out of 10 when parking on my inclined driveway.
Good to know, By-Tor. Thanks for replying.
Would like to hear if others have experienced the groan/creak and if there is a fix. If it is the hill hold rubbing/engaging/sticking, is it adjustable?
I get groaning from the hill-hold when I'm pulling off a hill... it's just the brakes releasing in my case, so I'm not worried...

Look at the part about brake noise.
I live on a hill in a narrow road and when I reverse out my driveway and edge forward there is creaking and groaning. My neighbor said "that's a lot of noise for an expensive car"
You can tell your neighbor that performance cars make lots of noises... because quietness isn't really a priority. This isn't a luxury car, which has a priority on quietness.
Quiet/Luxury - Performance - Reliable... pick two.

The
981
link is there, but its confusing because its within the
718
choice. Im not sure there is anything for the 987, as I dont recall this data format, which is also the same data/videos used within the
Porsche
"get to know" mobile app existing that far back.
Does anybody know how to find the same or similar info for 987? Is that available anywhere?
I did some searching online and found a 2010 owners manual pretty easily online (matches my car). There are copies out there, you just have to dig a little...
There are also service manuals that I've run across... those are bigger downloads, but they're out there. Note that the service manual I found wasn't very well organized, and may be a partial... but it's out there.
