By all means start another thread with regards to tuning the 981/718 GT4 power plant/s and chassis, but I’m not convinced this thread needs closing down, it’s already veered on and off the rails for two pages, and has some pertinent comments with regards to how this forum has evolved and its contributors changed, surely that doesn't warrant it being locked ?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Yeah recall him regularly talking about track days with his son and his 991.2 GT3RS WP. I think he also had an 812 SF and a stealthed up GT4RS too? Seemed like he was doing well and bought his cars to drive. To be honest the Porsche section is hard work sometimes though. Given the exceptionally fortunate position a lot in here are in, the squabbling about the most petty s
te is pretty tragic
Edit: Sorry, implying Taff had got fed up of that, not that he was partaking in it.

Whilst we're looking for missing persons, what happened to IREvans ? Seem to recall Yellow knew him outside the confines of PH ? Any idea Paul ?
As for why Taffy left the building ? I'm not in the least bit surprised. He always seemed an upbeat, pleasant and down to earth contributor, yet I watched him being "savaged" a few times, by several regular contributors on here over the last 12 months or so, and was left thinking, I wouldn't hang around on this forum if people choose to behave in that manner.
I posted this on here last week :

The modern public hand wringing, choosing spec/buying by committee was very much the exception on the PH Porsche forum 15 plus years ago. Now it’s the tedious norm unfortunately.
Don’t get me wrong, if someone was making their first foray into the Porsche world, this place was (and still can be) brilliant, with lots of really useful contributions from very knowledgeable owners and/or former owners, but there was never any talk or indeed 200+ page threads on resale values, the best spec for resale, the best trim specs etc etc.
They were halcyon days ... and this thread is as you’ve rightly highlighted, a brief and welcome break from all that nonsense.
Of course some will say, if you’re not interested in those threads, don’t read them,
and to them I say, I don’t, but because of the dearth of threads such as this one (the thread where this was originally posted) this forum is now slim pickings for the many real enthusiasts that used to reside on here.
Generally speaking the PH Porsche forum is a shadow of it's former self (some may say unrecognisable) and populated by a
very
different demographic to those of 10-15 years ago.
I genuinely think we should have a values thread and a trim/specifications thread, and rather than these topics derailing so many threads, we should all self-moderate threads, and if you want to talk values of
any
Porsche, you do so on the value thread, likewise if you want to discuss resale trim/specs, they too would have a specific thread, and it would probably make a good reference point for those wanting information on those specific topics, rather than having to trawl through countless pages/posts in numerous other threads.
What do others think ?
P.S I presume the two individuals whose posts were deleted from this thread, have been thrown in the PH sin bin for their transgressions ?
There were a lot of posts removed from the topic to which he last posted ... other than the very last to say that he could no longer attend the Nurburgsing ?? meet.
Apologies for the spelling !
Self unware are two words that spring to mind reading some of this.....so so much green eyed envy displayed by the illumanati PH oracles do not blame Taffy. Hes got some lovely cars. Enjoy
I ventured onto the Porsche forum to learn more about the marque and get owners first hand views and opinions (I was never a prolific poster on PH anyway).
I’m happy to lurk but agreed, some of the infighting/jealousy/pettiness is really rather sad to see.
Thank you to those that have answered my questions, it’s much appreciated. Back to the research and the hope of my first Porsche soon.

I fully agree. While acknowledging the market downturn's impact and the importance of information, it seems like we're stuck at a cruise dinner table where a couple endlessly discusses their budget-friendly holiday deal for the same holiday with everyone present.
The main market threads are often dominated by a select few seemingly motivated by a vendetta against Porsche or dissatisfaction with a salesman, rather than having a genuine stake in the game.
Introducing a dedicated Porsche valuation thread could provide a space for them to delve into their subject without alienating those who simply want to share their positive experiences and enjoyment of cars with like-minded individuals. Currently, the Pistonheads Porsche forums are notably pessimistic, potentially causing us to lose contributors who bring positive perspectives to the community.
The values thing does get tedious.
I am far more interested in what people [i]do[i/] with their cars. Whether that's polishing them and attending car & coffe meets, road tours, track days and even modification. The superficial sort of buy a car for status - bragging rights and a few Insta pics - is such a cul de sac.
I jacked my GT3 up onto axle stands last weekend, to get the wheels refurbished. I totally forgot how I'd done it and, after a bit of searching, found the answer on 911uk.
FWIF for anyone interested:
Try not to get squashed or mahsed
Chock front and rear wheels
Jack under rear jack point (the one just ahead of rear wheel)
Axle stand under the front jack point
Blocks of wood under rear wheel
Repeat above on other side of car
Put jack under rear of car and use suspension cross-mount to raise
Put axle stands under both rear jack points
Lower rear onto stands
The last parts are the ones that sketch me out a bit, but it does work.
The big technical posts on pistonheads 10-15 years ago was IMS,RMS,Borescoring and chocolate engines.
Was always interesting to read Hartech posts and solutions!
The reason was it was relevant at the time like the value thing is now!
But if you are not interested in a particular post you don’t have to visit and complain and make judgements about others. But do agree about irrelevant threads to posts on a totally different subject.
Over the years you see a lot of posters come and go for what ever reasons and Taffy66 is no different.

Why is the value thing relevant , this forum was about using/enjoying cars , the value thing as you call it has absolutely no relevance to that
It’s worse than that.
There are plenty of owners who spend time and money having their cars painstakingly prepared, detailed, PPF’d, carefully parked under a silk covers, in a dehumidified, heated, alarmed, garages, connected to a trickle charger…… who can’t face taking them out on our filthy, pothole infested, gridlocked roads…..

Wrong
They're prepared, detailed, PPF'd (the complete car, obviously)
and then
ceramic coat the PPF, which protects the PPF, which protects the lacquer, which in turn protects the base coat, which protects the primer/Ecoat which protects the metal ...
Nothing good lasts for ever. PH Porsche forum was past it's 'best before date' many years ago, and the slow but inexorable departure of longstanding Porsche enthusiast users has been replaced with a new breed of poster who i find little common ground/interest with.
C'est la vie. Now back to debt, depreciation and doom.
Yes sad isn’t it Though I admit I rarely take my Spyder out in the rain - mainly because I can’t drive it like I want to because of the slippery roads - the car has more talent than I do !! I do drive it as often as possible though I even put 28000 miles on a 911 Speedster back in the day - horror of horrors !!
I also find it ironic that Porsche spends multi million pounds developing their “ halo “ cars such as 918 , 959 etc to give them stellar performance coupled with reliability and then most of them spend their lives in garages as “ pieces of art”/ investments - may as well produce something that looks like a hyper car and put 1.0 litre engine in it. The vast majority of owners would never know ! Oh well - each to their own I guess!

Spend any time on any of the 996 and 997 Facebook groups and you can't miss an IMS/RMS/Borescoring post on virtually a daily basis. People just don't tend to use forums in the same way these days.
There still seem plenty of enthusiasts out there, who are enjoying their Porsches and not just parking them in the garage worried about the values, as some would suggest. At every Porsche event I go to, Cars and Coffee meets and the like, there are loads of guys out in their Porsches, enjoying driving them and meeting up with like minded people. Yes a lot of them are second cars, with something more 'sensible' as the daily, but I think that always was the case. I love driving mine and take them out as often as I can!
I am 60 unmarried with no kids and fortunate to work in Construction . What interest do I have in an Investment ? Get it bought and get it driven and lets hear your thoughts opinions and experiences . It was the same as a kid in a Glasgow Council Flat when I would read Barry Cade and his Tales of the Trade in Car Mechanics in the early Seventies . Harrys Garage is I suppose the Modern Equivalent .

I tend to agree H. There’s not that many who actually post on the forum now, same old faces either talking market up and down depending on their personal financial position. Probably a dozen regular posters at best.
Schadenfreude remains more than evident now, with many desperate to see a crash and revel in the misery of those leveraged to the hilt.
Hence the depreciation threads.
Cut out the negativity, it’s the bitter market bears, spewing white noise, adds nothing to your life. Up there with the MSM for me. Turn them off.
Its happening but will bounce at some point, couple of dead cats first.
Stand back and count the Summers you think you have in front of you. No pockets in a shroud.

Early this morning , have a few Porsches luckily but this is the best suited for these conditions ( Just below freezing ) hence the daily . Cup2's now are a lot better now . Anyway great day out when the sun came out and a first run in a Taycan , thanks to Porsche Festive experience day . Very impressed .
may seem like a strange post... but the answer to posters who don't get on with each other is simple
don't engage, don't take the bait and politely ignore.
yes not easy to do , but it does take 2 hands to clap, and usually you both end up with sore hands if you continue clapping!
your will enjoy the forums much more if you avoid interaction with antagonists

What a lovely shot, looks happy but most definately hungry
Hope to see Taffy 66 back here. Someone who knows and drives his cars.
I drive my cars regularly and put miles on all of them including track days with the GT cars. Not on investor at all. However , I think there are many motivations in the Porsche world. I know people who are Concours types who want their cars immaculate, flippers who trade cars serially, and some who are image people. The dealers know this too, and will privately admit that many people fall into the last category.
That being said there are lots and lots of Porsches around these days, and I have plenty of mates who just want to drive the cars and do not care too much about a little nick or two from a hard day. Within the online world I have a good handle on those who are more in my mindset and just don't really engage with others who may have equally valid but different priorities.

It's now full of drips like av185 who never appear to drive any of their cars. Never see them at meets, track days, nothing. They just sit on forums talking about how good the cars are and then go on propaganda mode for whatever car they've been allocated next.
Can see why the real enthusiasts have been disappearing.
Is that not also because Porsche is now for a different type of buyer? They’re kind of Audis for the affluent these days. That’s going to lead to seat stitching discussions and WBAC stats.

Bravo! Yes, Cup 2's work far better than declared by Michelin in low temps.
Have to say, in these temperatures, the Taycan has made me into a big softie. Sure, I was out on the mountain bike last night in -5, but when it comes to de-icing and de-misting a car in the winter, the timer mode on these electric cars is a killer app.
I've been running about in the VW van last few days, picking up sets of wheels and mountain bikes, none of which fit in the piddling boot of the Cross Tourismo, and I am counting down the days to getting back in the EV. My work commute is only 8 miles and the T6.1 engine doesn't even warm up in that, let alone the whole inside of the van.
Without criticising anyone’s car choice, the majority of Porsche sales now aren’t taken up by full on car enthusiasts.
It’s just a numbers game now Macan, Cayenne and Taycan.
911’s given regulations etc etc aren’t exactly as focused as they were.
Years ago an enthusiast could walk in and purchase a NA manual car. That’s limited now to GT products that’s created its own “orbit” so to speak.
I guess we’re just seeing a broad change in the majority of the car market reflected on here.

That's been the case for years though. It's been said long ago that Porsche weren't a sports car maker but a SUV maker with a sideline in sports car - that was true then as well as now and isn't a recent thing by any means.
Oh yes, l fully get that, it is a gradual creep though.
With Covid and supplies etc, the values phenomenon was/is a real thing too.
Porsche themselves and regulations created the GT hype.
We were all influenced by everything consciously or not.
I’m certainly not an expert driver, mechanic or rolling in cash, but l just like a straight forward interactive manual rwd car, and what it costs does have a bearing!
I’m a person that still hasn’t got completely comfortable with electric handbrakes!
The choice has got more limited, but I still enjoy having a look here with a coffee and reading about such things - sad !!
The infantile arguments that boss threads at times are more than tedious though, so l skim past.

TBF all sports and prestige marques have 'had' to add in SUV's; Bentley, Rolls, Maserati, Ferrari.
Furthermore, with legislation on overall emissions, there also has to be an element of hybrid and EV and, also, the need to turbocharge all sports cars.
FWIW, the description of the Taycan as being an electic Porsche, rather than an electric car made by Porsche is IMHO right. The thing steers and handles exceptinoally well and, from most angles, looks very good.
My brief experience of the Macan, riding in mate's cars and also having one as a loan car were similarly favourable. They are, somehow, distinctly 'Porsche'.

Well, I agree the Taycan (and the panamera tbh) are remarkably decent to drive but that's caveated by - for their size and weight. Am a lot less on board with the 'Macan being distinctly Porsche though' to drive.....
If you don't wash it, you don't have to worry about getting it dirty ....

Digga , I was surprised how fast you could hustle the Taycan down country roads , handling and brakes for a big car top notch ...
Yes. My only negative about the car, on B roads and also for general living, is it is ridiculously wide. that does occasionally count against it.
I terms of driving enjoyment, there's no engine, but there is that seamless, unburstable torque. Only things I have driven that felt similar all had V8 engines of at least 4 litres.
It can be Jekyll and Hyde; luxurious, wafty cruiser, or sports 4 seat coupe.

There is another thread on the latest updates, I'll see if I can find it, .... skimmed the Surface Transform discs, revised the final drive ratio and fitted a single mass flywheel and lightweight clutch ... so to summarise:
981 GT4 Clubsport spec with the early splined third gear and PCCB's ++
+
1. KW three way clubsport dampers
2. Full 981 Clubsport suspension mods
3. Surface Transform discs in place of PCCB's vastly improving brake pad life (they run much cooler)
4. Power upgrade to 425bhp and 340 ft lbs removing hole in the torque curve +
5. M&M quiet exhaust (saves around 3dB) with 200 cell race cats and live remap
6. BBS F1r forged alloys for my Cup 2's keeping standard wheels for wets (PS4S)
7. RPM Technik revised crown wheel and pinion with single mass flywheel and lightweight clutch
Weight with half a tank of fuel 1400 kilos ....
I have all the original parts that have been removed to put the car back to standard, but why would you ???
This is what people should be doing with cars, not fannying about discussing stitching and values, and keeping things factory standard, ‘just because’.

I have all the original parts that have been removed to put the car back to standard, but why would you ???
I love a modified car. My local Indy (Ninemeister) seem to be doing single mass flywheel's every week for GT4s and GTS 4.0s. Both engines seem to be able to achieve 425bhp like yours without any difficulty. They seem to be removing the GPFs on most of these cars, so I'm assuming that this is unlikely to be detected at an MOT.
