I would start with checking these and fault codes with a tester as it will tell you the problem .

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

A pal of mine has a "P" reg 996 coupe with a GT3 aero pack on it and it's his pride and joy.... Lately the alarm has been going off when parked, for no reason. Turning on the engine switches off the alarm, but costs a fortune in petrol... He has changed the battery (was 5 years old) but the problem has not gone away. Does anyone have any experience of this and how to remedy? or is it a visit to an auto electrician? Thanks.

POST 2Original post

P reg, wow, must be a very early one, only ever seen them on an R onward... First port of call in alarm problems is usually the centre console cubby microswitch. I wonder if the alarm stores a code, to show what triggered it. :?:

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Robert, on reflection you are probably right, I think it's a private plate with his initials..... Anyone else got any ideas about the alarm?

POST 4Original post

Normally low battery causes this to happen. Although it's a new one could something be staying on to drain the battery when he's parked it up? Has he had recent upgrades to the electrics such as a new stereo that's not been earthed correctly? Finally has he checked for any water ingress under the passenger's seat from blocked drain holes under the trunk or in the sun roof causing electric faults? Hope this helps some.

POST 5Original post

If you put a tester on the car you can see the last 10 causes of alarm activation .. you can also see the last 10 problems the car saw when alarmed . I would start with checking these and fault codes with a tester as it will tell you the problem . Alarm events . Alarm activations . Both are sub sections of the Alarm CU .
