Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi, I have owned my Cayman 2.7 2007 just 4 weeks. On three occasions I have tried to start the engine and had no response when turning the key. The first time this happened I noticed it had been left overnight (in locked alarmed garage) with the door not fully closed, 2nd time and 3rd I had put the key in but had not tried to start for several minutes as I was messing with something else. Tried locking and unlocking door with remote but this did not work. But by locking and unlocking with key in door lock it started first time. I know that if you leave the car for several days it will close down and locking/unlocking with key resets. Is this normal ? Any help would be welcome. Chris

POST 2Original post

This is true as the remote-control standby function switches off after 5 days.

POST 3Original post

Its shutting down after only several minutes of being in the ignition though, seems wrong.

POST 4Original post

Have you reactivated your remote control? Directions in the Owner's Manual "unlock the driver’s door with the key at the door lock. Leave the door closed in order to prevent the alarm system from being triggered. 2. Press button 1 on the remote control. The remote control is now activated again."

POST 5Original post

Yes I tried that, its not been a problem yet as I can get things working again by doing that, but not sure why it should shut down if key is left in ignition for several minutes, I was just wondering if it was a quirk of Porsche electrics. Might have a word with Local dealer, I have an extended warranty that was transfered to me when I purchased the car. Cheers.

Hello Santa Fe I lost one of my keys and purchased a replacement. The dealer re-programmed the new key and the one I still have. Last night when I arrived home I had a h### of a time removing the new key from the ignition. While the key was still in I pressed the lock un-lock feature and got it out. I will return to the dealer for a fix. Here is my concern. When I start the car there is a popping sound that sounds like an electrical arc coming from the engine compartment. Could this be a programing problem?

POST 7Original post

Would not think programming the key would do anything to harm anything in the engine compartment. Does sound like the key was not tested by the dealer. From MY08 there is a key removal device in the fuse box Planet-9 - FAQ: Indiosyncrasies Let us know what the dealer says.

POST 8Original post

Have not visited dealer yet. However, I discovered the popping sound is coming from the driver side radio speaker!? Weird. It happens with the radio turned off.
