I'm being told by a porsche specialist that they need replacing but I've noticed zero change in my car in terms of handling or noise?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi chaps, Can someone please tell me what Anti-Roll drop links do on a 996 and the symptoms which point to the fact they need changing? I know they are part of the suspension - sorry for the no doubt stupid question. Cheers

POST 2Original post

Known in the trade as dog-bones as they are a short rod with a BJ at either end resembling a bone. The connect the anti-roll bar to the wheel hub. Symptoms will be clonking. Difficult to pin point in early stages of failure as the coffin arms will give similar symptoms. Check for play in them 1st. They are about £37 each

POST 3Original post

The links from Porscheshop are about £26. The original ones were made by TRW and range from £37 - 50 depending on where you get them from. The Porscheshop ones are made by Febi which is a subsidiary of Bilstein who make suspensions for Porsche so I was happy to use them. Symptoms are as Lloyd has mention - just a point of note sometimes you can't fell the play in them yet but they are loose enough to cause the clinking. One way to test them is to disconnect them and drive a short distance to see if the noise improves. It can also be the ARB bushes if the clonking persists.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks chaps - appreciate the responses. I'm being told by a porsche specialist that they need replacing but I've noticed zero change in my car in terms of handling or noise? Nothing seems out the ordinary...albeit the ride on my 996 is harsh compared to my previous 996 but I put that all down to the M030 suspension...maybe the drop links could be contributing a tad to the situation? Think I might leave them and then if I do hear clonking etc. get them changed - or perhaps take them to another specialist to check over? TIA
