Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

But it sounds like your issue is more serious, so I'm not very hopeful that will help.
Leading evidence: 'more serious' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'more serious' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace cartridge' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The cartridge has been replaced, the hoses plugged in in every combination possible and still no solution.

I've had this problem with my 2002 C4S since I bought used, 2 years ago.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've had this problem with my 2002 C4S since I bought used, 2 years ago. Neither the dealer nor my mechanic have been able to figure it out. The cartridge has been replaced, the hoses plugged in in every combination possible and still no solution. Has anyone had any experience with a similar situation?
I noticed that if i use the pump in the normal pipe down way it keeps shutting off with the back pressure so i invert the nozzle and that stops the shut off system kicking in

Yep - Have the exact same issue.
I bought mine 3 months ago and the previous owner had covered just 100 miles in a year. I put it down to lack if use and guessed it was an air lock that would sort itself out.
It sounds exactly the same as yours in that, it doesn't just cut off but covers you with fuel.
Most of the pumps I attend time out after 5 mins and I can squeeze £30 in £1 intervals!! (losing about £5 on the floor)
I hope there is a solution!

Have never had mine spit fuel out, but do sometime have trouble with the pump cut off. (To be fair, have had this on several cars)
I've found that nozzle drawn slightly back* rather than all the way in, and starting with a slow flow, then building up speed once the flow has got established, gives the least problems. But it sounds like your issue is more serious, so I'm not very hopeful that will help.

* I mean like 2 or 3 inches, but still well inside the filler neck. I'm not suggesting you stand back three feet and take aim like in the gents at closing time!! :floor:
I've not experienced this but could it be a blocked overflow/air outlet pipe?
For the fuel to go in it must displace air in the tank which must have an outlet somewhere. If this is blocked, air will try to force it's way back out past the pump nozzle inevitably bringing fuel with it.
Sorry if I'm stating the blindingly obvious here!
Well. . . the vapors are evacuated to the canister which recycles and reignites them if I understand correctly. There is no evacuation of air or vapors directly into the atmosphere .
I tried the "inverted nozzle" technique and it did speed up the filling. . . until the car went back to vomiting fuel back again. :wall:
