Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The silicates in the old coolants get used up hence they had to be replaced every 2 years.

Now i'm sure i read a piece on a thread before saying its ok to mix the two different colours as they are OAT and HOAT (whatever that means) but is this ok to top up using the pink stuff?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just need a bit of clarification on topping up the coolant. I had the car in getting checked at OPC as the collant level was low about 2 months ago. Had them check and they said the front left return hose was sketchy so changed it. pressure tested (all ok). At this point they had refilled the system with a gold yellow colour coolant. On checking the coolant level the other day it was low and below the minimum level. I therefore topped it up with some H2O before purchasing a nice shiney bottle of coolant from Design 911 which comes and is pink. Now i'm sure i read a piece on a thread before saying its ok to mix the two different colours as they are OAT and HOAT (whatever that means) but is this ok to top up using the pink stuff? Also should the 1L of coolant i bought be diluted? Any help would be appreciatted. Cheers Mac

POST 2Original post

Hi just top up you, will find that it might take a day or two to expel any air from the system ,but do keep an eye out for any signs of obvious leaks just in case Mike

POST 3Original post

The original yellow coolant is an OAT one and so is the new pink one. OAT and HOAT ones tend to be compatible. It is when the OAT/HOAT coolants are mixed with the old pure silicate ones (they tend to be blue) that you get an adverse reaction resulting in a brownish sludge. The silicates in the old coolants get used up hence they had to be replaced every 2 years.
