So I have read so many posts about dumping the base CDR 30 head unit and going with aftermarket stuff.
However, has anybody done a significant upgrade to everything but the interface? Speakers only? Amplifier? Any devices to clean up the sound? I'm trying to stay with original if possible and not looking for a concert on wheels.
How is the
PCM
3 head unit in comparison using the base speakers?
Yup, I just posted a thread about this.
Saw it searching with your username.
So essentially a call via Bluetooth using iSimple interrupts music connection?
iSimple uses the AUX input of the
CDR-30
. Phone calls go through the
CDR-30
phone bluetooth as usual. If you don't have the phone bluetooth, there is another iSimple device that would support phone calls too.
Re-reading your question... if you are asking if a bluetooth call will interrupt iSimple on AUX, yes, it will... assuming you have telephone bluetooth built-in to your
CDR-30
.
So a few more questions:
1. Can you have or use a device plugged into the auxiliary jack still? Or does the Bluetooth splicing effectively disabled the built-in auxiliary jack?
2. So the 2010 model has no built-in Bluetooth module option with the CDR 30. Does that essentially mean I have to buy the Bluetooth device which comes with a mic ?
3. have you been able to further clean up the sound or considered adding an amplifier besides the factory speakers?
I used taps to splice into the AUX-in right behind the head unit. I can still use the wired AUX in, or the bluetooth. It's not technically the correct way to do it, but it seems to work fine.
Yes, you can purchase an iSimple interface that does include the mic to add phone support. Others have suggested stuffing the mic into the space where the steering column meets the dash. That's where the factory mic would have been and seems to work ok. If you are using the iSimple interface, you would hear the phone. If you were on the radio, you would not, and you would have to switch to aux to take the phone call. A little less automatic, but I think it would still work well.
I have made major improvements to the sound by adding the rear factory speaker kit, and by adding a small powered sub behind/under my seat. It's almost as decent as premium sound in my other cars. See this thread for further details:
