Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi All, after previously having a 1999 2.5 Boxster I have just bought an immaculate 2006 3.2S and am absolutely blown away with the car.
I would like to install a DVD-
GPS
device and not sure if I can retro fit the Porsche unit or if I have to go with an aftermarket one, does anyone have any recommendations that I could look at.
Secondly I would like to get some more BHP, I have looked at some threads regarding remaps and "throttle bodies"........again some advice would be great.
I live in Scotland and looking for an independent Porsche specialist, I have come across this company "
http://spautobahn.com/about-us"
and was wondering if anyone has used them. They are pretty close to where I live and from Web site look good, many thanks in advance for advice.
Greetings cubbyno9! I too own a 2006 Boxster S and even after nearly 7 years of ownership, it never fails to put a smile on my face.
I cannot help you with a DVD-
GPS
device, as I have not installed one. However, there is a thread titled "Latest Head Unit Replacement" (as I recall) that has great information in it if you intend to go aftermarket. I expect most here would suggest that you go aftermarket rather than install the dated OEM unit, for all kinds of good reasons. That is what I would do.
As far as performance goodies go, there I can lend my opinion. I have done the more-or-less prototypical BHP upgrades: the so-called "desnork," EVOMS intake, throttle body and plenum,
DME
flash, catless
headers
, and Dream 1
exhaust
collector. By buying things on sale, I spent about $2000 on the parts. My two favorite modifications are the catless
headers
from Maxspeed Motorsports—fabulous sound—and the
Cayman S
throttle body and plenum. The installation of the latter may be found here
http://www.planet-9.com/reviews/box...mance-modifications/p357-porsche-75mm-tb-and-cayman-plenum-upgrade-for-987.html
. The throttle body and plenum had the biggest impact on the performance of my car. In the above article, a dynamometer plot is included showing a nontrivial increase in BHP and torque—some 30 BHP and 30 ft-lbs of torque at certain RPM. These effects are clearly felt, as the car feels much more torquey and responsive to me. Enjoy!
Hi Professor,
Thanks for reply sir. Great information, this is exactly what I am looking for. Looks like it will be the throttle body-plenum first then catless
headers
and then take it from there.
I will let you know how it goes, cheers again.

I did a head unit replacement on my 2005 Boxster and opted for the amp replacement( if you have the
Bose System
) I did not go very expensive ( all in about $750 and did the install myself) Sounds great since it is a convertible. I opted for a HU with a knob for volume control and a few buttons as opposed to a full touch screen unit as I find that the screen can get washed out in sun with the top down, a situation not found in
Caymans
that are the predominate focus of HU replacements on the forums. While I included
GPS
/Navigation and a Back up Camera, if I were to do it again, I would wait until Android or Apple HU were available and use an app for navigation. All in , I think it is a great option for the old style CDR 24 Unit. You can find the Bezel/install kits on line that are a near exact match for the interior. Best wishes
Thanks for the tips guys. I am currently offshore at the moment so when I get back I will now have a better idea of my next steps, your help is greatly appreciated.
Prior to purchasing my
Cayman S
which has
Bose
and
PCM
, I was looking at other models with the CDR. If you choose to install a
PCM
into a non-
PCM
car, it seems a whole host of issues regarding lack of all the functionality built into the Porsche head unit.
I think aftermarket such as
Pioneer
AVICs or
Kenwood
DNX572BH should work. A lot of the high spec ones have touchscreens (argh), but the
Kenwood
still has a knob which I prefer for quick on/off or volume control.
These link had some helpful stuff.

Good info and thank you. I too, prefer a volume knob.
Can the Kenwwod be
plug
and play with a harness kit or some such? The thought of having an audio guy (who probably has little to no Porsche experience) messing around inside my Cayman is not going to fly but I am only a
plug
and play guy when it some to electronics so it needs to be almost idiot proof.
Eddie
Harness kit I assume depends on the head unit chosen and then what it is being connected to. The
Kenwood
appears from the website to have a more simple back panel. You would think Porsche would do the same .
I assume you want the audio interface in the center armrest if present still intact. A separate mic may have to be installed for any handsfree phone calls.
Honestly, you can try to do it yourself, but it is not usually
plug
and play. Hopefully you have professional audio guys who deal with just luxury sport vehicles. Porsche is not the only car with relatively garbage audio. In Chicago area, we have a few.

Good luck!
I had a
Pioneer
7" AVH-8750BT fitted to my
cayman s
last week.
My car has the
BOSE stereo
, so it required a MOSTBUS adapter but i am really happy with the headunit and how it integrates.
I'd highly recommend the unit as it has
apple carplay
and android auto as well as all the other features that i required, plus the sound is great.
If you want some photos to see how it fit, let me know.
You might hit the
Bose
replacement threads in the 987 Electronics forum. Many pix of different head units installed. The Euromotorspeed Kit seems the standard with or without
Bose
. The finished install looks excellent and Loi's customer support is reportedly excellent as well.
You might also look at the Zenec Z-7015S. Don't think they're available here but the few reports I've read sound decent.
If you're going to do the install yourself check out the
PCM
retrofit in the Articles section. It's for a 2006 Cayman but I'd expect that area to be much the same as a Boxster. Not that I recommend the
PCM
, it was dated when new, but the removal steps might help with whatever you do.
