Had my Windshield replaced and the installer botched the connection of my antenna
booster
. It is a
987.2
2009
Boxster S
. I did not notice how poor the reception was on my radio until I have been driving with the top up.
I removed my pillar A and was shocked to find loose, hand wrapped 16 guage wiring.
photo is attached below...
I removed the antenna
booster
from the pillar and re-seated it. I could not figure out how to remove the black square connectors on each end of the
booster
(997-647-117-00).
I am assuming this is totally wrong. I barely have any AM reception.
Does anyone know what the end connectors are supposed to connect to? Is it the Windshield antenna?
Currently it is a 9" loop of wire connected end to end.

i have the exact problem
i bought my
boxster
with windshield already replaced , i didnt until i found out that there was no windshield antenna and no antenna
booster
, so my AM reception is terrible
btw, is that the passenger or driver side? i am hoping i could buy the antenna
booster
with connectors.
Picture came out upside down...
It is the driver's side. I ended up taking a 18" of 16 gauge cable and soldered it to each exposed end of the antenna
booster
. I wrapped everything in electric tape. I looped the cable so that it runs the length of the pillar. It is a 90% improvement for AM reception, and 80% improvement on FM. My
Toyota
can hold some of the weaker FM channels, and the
Porsche
losses them.
In retrospect, I spent all my time making sure I got Saint-Gobain-Sekurit OEM glass (identical to what was replaced), and ended up with someone who has not worked with a
Porsche
before.

care to share where you got the windshield and how much?
In Toronto, I had the windshield installed for $400 Canadian or $305 USD. The install is fine and the car Windshield holds up under high speeds.
I have had no issues other than the antenna hook-up.
I am thinking of removing the other pillar A cover to examine if there is a 2nd antenna
booster
.

hi guys... not sure if the cars are identical in right hand drive format but mine was like this.
I can't recall if mine had the
booster
but if the car setup is the same - this cable should run the length of the right pillar and possibly connect all the way to the left where your
booster
is located. I couldn't trace mine as it goes into the pillar near where the connector is.
Hope this helps.
2 weeks now and my radio is working great.... In spots were I had no reception I am getting full sound. I am glad my modification seems to of done the trick.
