Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Hi all, just wondering today the whereabouts of the infamous/famous 996 GT2 featured in many of the big rallys and usually the most talked about vehicle in each rally. Its got quite a history, would be a nice car to have- talking point anyway! hopefully its not lanquishing in a police/government compound nowadays?
Thanks
Cool car. Heres a piccy I took of it when I did the Gumball a few years ago
This was in Marrakech
Heres Rob himself. NEVER ever play knuckes or armwrestle with this man. He is SUPERHUMAN.

Hi,
The car is going strong, I use it for an everyday car and have put 40k on it since buying it from henry. To date I have replaced the Turbo's, put KW dampers, gearbox rebuild, new disks and Milltek exhaust, now its running at just over 540Bhp, 560ftLb. Ray at West Tuning has been looking after the car.
The gearbox was done under warranty, so cannot really complain as it driven pretty hard every day.
May decide to dress the old girl up in the same stickers as LonMan for the trip , anyone know where to get this done??
Cheers
Chris
Doctor, what an utterly awesome legendary car you have. It must be one of the highest mileage gt2's around and serious miles at that! Neil (viper) at racegraphics did these for me
Good to hear the Gumball GT2 is still doing well and being used as Porsche intended.
Has she done as many miles as this car:
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/489955.htm
67k miles must surely be one of the leggiest examples out there?
C.
Glad to hear its still going strong.
I recall the hoards of people laughing at you for buying it at the time.
Seriously cool car as it has a fantastic history
Great info thanks guys, any chance of the new owner posting any pictures? What a history that car has amongst enthusiasts, its what they are designed for, not posing around town!
Hee hee, The passenger in the last pic, is called Aldo. He done most of the work on my Esprit V8 GT.
I believe he had something to do with the setup of the vehicle for that Gumball?
I'll have to give him a call later. He'll love to see the car is still going strong.
Congrats on the purchase Doctor. That's a car to be proud of.
John
Just shows how great these cars are. That car like a lot of Porsche’s has been driven very hard, worse then most in fact. And it’s still going strong. If that was a Lambo or a Ferrari it would have had to have been rebuilt 6 times by now!! lol
Anyway it was following Rob in my 996 C4 on 2003 Gumball that made me really really want a Porsche GT2. We were both on the highway stuck behind a cop in Florida. As soon as the cop pulled off the highway we both gunned it. I looked down at my Speedo and as I hit 150mph I looked up and Rob was about 2 miles up the road! My god that guy can drive. So many great stories.
After that I knew I needed a faster car. When I did Gumball in 04 in my brand new GT2 (300mile on the clock!), the only two entrants out of 200 cars to pass me in Morocco on the long long long very straight motorway section was Rob in his modified GT2 and the yellow Ferrari Enzo. Still I'm happy with my result on beating everyone to Tangier. I got a first place. That was a good day. I’ll never sell my 996 GT2. Hopefully I’ll just add to the collection!

Sounds like it. Boy I'll bet nobody else in the world could have put 2 miles of straight highway between his GT2 and your carrera like that guy...

Yea IMHO it's really not worth it now. For what it costs to enter this year, you could buy a rather nice car instead!

Agreed , straight line driving requires sheer skill , not like these 8 min ring laps , childs play.

Funny guy. When I said he can drive I was refering to throughout the event. Not over the two miles.

Morocco was indeed like nothing else ever, the fastest bit of Gumball driving I've ever experienced. WOW.
Sorry to piss on your bonfire though, but as I told you at the time, Kimble and I were both at Tangiers 15 mins before you guys. Took the opportunity to fill up with petrol as no one was there.......got back, and there you were. A respectable 3rd is not to be scoffed at though...
I will concede that everyone beat us to the finish line though......I love jail food!

Not sure why it is good to buy a car that has been absolutely spanked by the previous owner.
Still, I am sure it has has a load of cash thrown at it and quodos to the previous guy for using it properly.
Enjoy in good health.

It really was surreal. It's like nothing I have ever experienced. It was the first time I drove the car flat out long enough to hit the rev limiter in 6th and be able to hold it there for what seemed like forever. Also the driving along crappy single lane county type roads at over 180mph was crazy. One minute you would be doing 160mph next there would be a donkey in the road. It really was utter madness. We had a few near misses. We were lucky. But it’s still is one of the very best driving experiences of my life. I will never forget it. And I'm not surprised there were so many crashes. There really were a lot of t
ts on the event that couldn’t drive for toffee. The thing that most stands out for me was the fact that at the start of the run through Morocco most drivers would be depending on their passenger telling them when it was safe to overtake. But after a while it became the norm to just overtake anyway and let the oncoming traffic pull of the road out of the way. It was great!

As I recall you spent a considerable time in jail on both Gumball in 03 and in 04. You must like it mate!! Personally it’s not for me…. Anyway respect to you. I have to admit you’re the craziest driver I have ever seen in my life. I'm still looking forward to the next one..... drive safe indeed…..see you at the start...

Yeah thats probably what the guys in their M5's, 360's,430's and a few Porsche's had on their mind as I cruised pass them at little over 317km/h coming back from Denmark this weekend.
Has the car done 60, 80 or 300k? who really cares, its still has the ability to cruise at speeds most cars do not have on their dials never mind attain.

Hi N, things do seemed to have moved a funny direction here though.
92 pages on the PCGB, with some mysterious sleepers, and 92 pages on why Max should go.
The humour seems to have gone out of it. Or if you try to be humourous, some twit gets the hump.
That day out in Darkest Cambridge 18 months ago seems an age.
Torchster seems to have dropped from the radar also.
Ive read the column a few times, very funny.
Classic Nervmeister scripts, keep up the good work.

But not for the oncoming traffic presumably?
Be fascinating to know the highest mileage GT1 blocked car in the UK.
I've browsed 6speedonline and they have a far more casual attitude to big mileages than the UK. End of the day, and early 996 TT can be 8 years old now. 64k would seem to be seen as high mileage, but thats only 8k a year.
For comparison, how many miles would a race GT1 have covered over the course of say the Le Mans 24hr? Is there somewhere that lists number of laps completed?
<goes off to check wikipedia>
ETA: After a quick check, assuming the figures I found are correct a GT1 would have covered around 3000 race miles over the course of the Le Mans 24hrs (plus qualifying etc). How many road miles that might be equivalent to is anyones guess?
