Check under your passenger seat, that's where the important electrics are, any water there?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

This is not how I wanted to start my 1st post as a newbie.... Bought a
996
Carrera4
back in Novemeber and up to today I have been very happy, However, got in the car this morning drove less than 1 mile and it died at the 1st island ! All electrics work, lights on dashboard etc... but engine will not start, not even turn over.
Anyway, long story short, After AA recovery, my Porsche is now sat in the garage at Porscheshop with possible problem with the key transponder or alarm or could it be something else ?
Kosmo
Sorry to hear that..
Did you hear anything else or did you have any other engine issues/concerns i.e smoke not smooth engine run etc ?
What did the AA guy said ???
If you had no other problems it might be electrical
Theo
No other symptoms... Engine running smooth, no noises, the starter motor does not even click or try to turn, Must be electric, its like the car is imobilised.
From what your saying it does sound electrical but I am no expert. I hope Porsche shop come back with a diagnosis very soon & you get it sorted soon too.
While i'm here :welcome: to 911uk.com from a fellow 996 3.4 owner.
Post some pics of your car when it's sorted.
Sounds electrical. Did anything 'weird' start happening before it shut down, like windows going down and Xmas tree light dash board?
Check under your passenger seat, that's where the important electrics are, any water there?
Good luck... :thumb:
On my Turbo I left the key in the ignition overnight (in hindsight not the brightest thing), and the next morning it was completely dead wouldn't even click over on the starter motor. On another occassion with the boxster grabbed an old key that doesn't normally get used and had all sorts of issues starting the car until we worked out the battery in the key was almost flat... Hope it's something simple...
No signs of problems prior to shutting down, didn't even relise it had stopped as I arrived at the island, taking it easy warmint her up.... noticed the lights on the dashboard were on and went to drive off and nothing !
Deffo not battery related, all other functions work, lights, windows, heaters and even central locking from the key.
Cheked the alarm module under the seat, dry as a bone, AA called Porscheshop and they said key transponder or alarm module straight away so thats was I'm hoping. No spare key so cant try that, going to get one while at Porscheshop along with a service.
Got everything crossed hoping it's nothing expensive like ECU !
Thanks for the Welcome... been browsing around the forum for about a year now, was going to post topic when I get round to taking some pics of the car when the weather clears up but this problem beat me to it.
Cheers,
Kosmo
Just had a call from Porscheshop and they said it's the fuse to the ECU that keeps blowing and I need a new ECU.... They said a 2nd hand item can not be used, Can anyone confirm this ?
Also, could it not just be the supply wire to the ECU damaged ?
This looks like its going to expensive !
