Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Hi, my 2004 996 c4s - full Porsche service history had a new clutch fitted (porsche reading) and porsche reading told me that there was a coolant leak through the split crankcase going through engine.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, my 2004 996 c4s - full Porsche service history had a new clutch fitted (porsche reading) and porsche reading told me that there was a coolant leak through the split crankcase going through engine. To rectify £7,500 as i had a gold warranty with warranty wise contacted them - first time declined the work as not catastrophic failure - I told them doesn't state this in the warranty and porsche said was covered in the warranty - i supplied porsche with the warranty documents - w/wise sent assessor who said was meterlurgical and was a progressive fault - therefore w/wise said not covered - again nothin in the warranty against this not being covered! Porche have said as meturlurgical - manufacturing fault will do the job for £3,500 as a goodwill gesture - the car has only done 48K and well looked after..... looks like i will have to go to court here.... do i take both of them to court? I think the warranty should cover it - i have £10K max per claim - I also thought Porche would be a better buy than this? Had the motor 7 months....any thoughts much appreciated

POST 2Original post

Sorry to hear that. If Porsche are saying it's a manufacturing fault then why not 100% liability? I'd get that in writting that it's a manufacture fault and proceed from there. Best of luck...

POST 3Original post

Yeah, get that in writing. I found for very big jobs (i.e. an engine strip down on a Boxster due to an broken IMS bolt.....) OPCs hit you with a big figure and then will negotiate down. I guess they want the business. I doubt Porsche GB will admit outright liability here though, and clearly the OPC wants to be seen offering goodwill. One ray of sunshine perhaps. Pretty sure if a car is less than six years old, it is covered by the Sale of Goods act in that it must be sufficiently durable - a split crankcase on a 48K car isn't sufficiently durable... I don't know if you have to be the original owner for this to apply or not though. Give consumer direct a call, they should be able to advise of your rights and who you should be hassling (Porsche/Warranty Wise/dealer who sold you the car). Also give Porsche GB a ring to explain the situation and your 'disappointment with the brand' - you have nothing to lose.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
