I think it is a common wear item being exposed and subject to heat, vibration so most people change all 6 at the same time.

Hello All Having left the car for a week in damp conditions it has developed a misfire which has not cleared after two days. I notice the coil packs range from £17 each to £32 each. Ant reason why I should not buy 6 of the cheaper ? Also the key went flat but recharged itself after a couple of hours of it being in the ignition switch. Cheers Dave

Do you mean you had to unlock manually and once you'd driven the car the central locking via the fob was working again? This'll be the central locking sleep mode if it's left for more than 5 days. I don't believe the keyfob recharges itself but I may be wrong :dont know:

New coil pack I recently had a misfire on the car and one of the coil packs was cracked. I changed all 6 at the same time. I have a Carrera 4, 3.6 , 63k. I think it was around £30 each. I was told that there are several types but the one I had was the updated 997 one. I don't know how it is different though. Seems to be better than even before misfire. I think it is a common wear item being exposed and subject to heat, vibration so most people change all 6 at the same time. Saw an add in Total911 advertising new high energy coils for 996 and 997 turbos which offer 10 kw power increase. Don't know how this happens or if this is true. Anybody have experience of coils giving power increase ?

Porsche keys use a CR2032 battery some BMW keys (E46 onwards i believe) do recharge via the ignition switch but not Porsche, hence rotate your BMW keys 6 monthly so the spare battery does get recharged

yes had to unlock manually. The key was dead I couldn't understand it. Maybe it does go to sleep but it's working fine now. Took two days to get over the misfire....so nice when it came back on song. Check light still on but apparently it learns the problem is resolved and the light goes out eventually. A truly magical machine all round. Gets to fix itself. Dave
