Hi, I have baught the Alpine IVA-W202R (Euro version of the 205) and have bose high end sound package, what else do I need to buy?
Can I keep the amp and speakers, do I need a new amp as I heard all is with optical sound lines in my car?
If yes, which one would you recommend in terms of price/quality? and would it fit the place where the factory amp is located now?
thanks much!
Ronny

As you will read in that thread; you will not be able to use the Bose amplifier because it's fiberoptic. I recommend using one of the few 6 channel amplifiers on the market; I think the Infinity is the best bang for the buck. You use the 4 full-range channels on the amp to run the front and rear midrange speakers and front tweeters (on a crossover with the front midrange), and the two low-range channels on the amp to run the Bose nD woofers in the doors. The Bose sub has an internal amp that you can feed a line level signal to and it will function without an additional amp. Some people choose not to use the Bose amp because it is not very good and install another subwoofer in the rear hatch, for this you must either get a powered subwoofer or a subwoofer with another external amplifier.
I agree, but I believe the infinity is a 5 channel amp, not a 6 chanel amp, just split the signal.
Also, the whole idea that the speaker cables are fiber optic is a myth, they are regular copper wires going from the amp to the drivers.
Sorry I meant 5 channel... got confused with home systems in my mind.
Imagine how difficult it would be to run fiber optic cables to all the speakers considering they can't bend over a certain angle or the light transmission stops. To make matters worse and more expensive they'd have to put a translator type unit by every speaker because light might transfer data but it can't move a magnet
If I use the infinity reference, and power the 4 channels to the left and right front and rears, and the last channels split between the two door subs, I loose the center dash speaker right? and I can't have surround sound.. (think my alpine unit supports surround sound). Wouldn't it be better to buy these two units:
-Alpine MRA-F350 (50W RMS x 5) AMP supporting surround, so I could also connect the center speaker, and have surround in case I watch a dvd concert in surround.
-Kenwood KAC-6202 60Wx2 - 2 channel amp to power the door subs
with these two, maybe I would be able to connect all speakers, keep the surround, and have as good music if not better than the infinity?
what do you think?
Thanks.
Yes absolutely that will work if you want to retain multichannel surround but it's not necessary unless you will be watching dvd's...Cd's are recorded in stereo sound.
But if that's what you want to do you can use an optical digital cable or the Ai-net interface to transfer a digital signal between the headunit and amp. The alpine amp has a sub output, or you can use preouts from the headunit.
Thank you for answering my questions, I have four points I would like to clear up:
1-I checked and in order to use 5.1 surround sound, I need to purchase a Alpine PXA-H701 which costs $400, so I don't think I'll go that route, as I won't be watching to many dvd concerts amd I'm sure the sound will be amazing with DTS 2.0 (supported in the head unit) and the 10 speakers of the bose.. what do you think?
2-additionaly, I was reading the post at:
http://www.planet-9.com/cayman-electronics/22732-avic-d3-installed-bose.html
and noticed that he said you loose the center speaker on the dash..Is there any way to keep it working?
3-Lastly, I noticed he used high pass filters, what are these for? I also looked for them on ebay and could not find them..
4-Is it not possible to mount the amp somewhere else than in the luggage area? Does it fit in the space allocated for a changer in the front boot?
Thank you!
To answer your questions (sorry for the delay, lost track of thread):
2- My headunit (Avic-D3) does not support surround sound, hence losing the center channel.
3- A high pass filter only lets the high frequencies go through, this way you do not end up routing the lower frequencies (bass) to your tweeters, etc, which could damage them.
4- I just had them put it in the luggage area, the installer wanted to mount it on a MDF but I said just leave it as it is. My amp was too big to fit into the CD changer area.
