The Navigation Update CD went in the Nav DVD in the front and ran an update (didn’t take that long).

Suspected cause
Probably the software versions relating to a level B unit that has had the Repair CD installed to overcome Cd skip and MP3 playback issues.

When I checked, the only component with a tick against it was the NAV, everything else had warning triangles, but I have tested pretty much everything and it all appears to work, any ideas ??

Suggestion
Your car has indeed recieved the repair kit Cd update , this is usually only applied if the CD drive has had problems or the MP3 playback did not work correctly.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Right, upgrade and latest NAV DVD in and running.
As mentioned on a previous thread, this is a p*ss taking load of money. Comes in a box with a leatherette holder (that makes me feel much better about spending £400…) 2
PCM
2.1 update CD’s, 1 Nav update CD, and the Europe Map DVD 08/2007. My previous Nav DVD was 04/2005. No sign of an 04/2008…..
My car is a Late 2005 (55)
Cayman S
.
Before I started, pressing NAV & TRIP game me all the SW versions:
Before
System Software 04364AD1/3604
Navigation System 00174436/2906
Phone 05034B54/0305
PCM
05024AD1/0205
The First 2.1 Update CD game “no update required”
The 2nd 2.1 Update CD ran through an update
(This CD went in the head unit by the way)
The Navigation Update CD went in the Nav DVD in the front and ran an update (didn’t take that long).
After
System Software 04514BD1/5104
Navigation System 00174412/4804
Phone 05034B54/0305 (Same)
PCM
05024AD1/0205 (Same)
Not able to see any immediate differences, TMC and postcode (ABCXX X) is still there. I’ll see if I notice anything in the coming days…
Will see if I can back the discs up so I don’t have to leave the originals in the car.
Any questions, please shout.
Well, I was considering contacting
Porsche
to see if any updates were available as my car in a Dec 05 (55plate) example, as yours ......£400,
why does that not surprise me anymore !!! we should all get together and Share like the family that we are
If you don't have luck using conventional programs... use CloneCD, it makes cd or dvd copies regardless of any copy protection methods. And don't use Clone DVD as that's for movie dvd's.. Clone CD is for data cd's and dvd's.
SlySoft CloneCD | clone cd, backup cd, cd copy, copy music cd, copy navigation cd, copy protected cd, safe disc
The products are free for 21 days with no limitations I believe.
I would happily walk across glass for a copy of the update CD's. I installed my own Nav and
PCM
and none of the software is updated. I have different versions for each and every item in my car and even though it all seems to work I have warning marks on the components when you press the trip and main buttons. Its so easy to buy the Nav disc, and I have the latest version of that but those update CD's are like unicorn horns.

sw versions check
Hi guys, reading this thread got me interested enough to check the sw versions in my car.... can anyone help me out here, I have not idea what these numbers mean.
PCM : 05473AD1 / 4705
System : 04514BD1 / 5104
Amp : 00017500 / 3504
Changer: C38 / 3003
Nav : 00174412 / 4804
Phone : 05034B54 / 0305
When I checked, the only component with a tick against it was the NAV, everything else had warning triangles, but I have tested pretty much everything and it all appears to work, any ideas ??
As always, any advice is gratefully received.
Many Thanks
Rob
I believe the 2 disc update is a cumulative update to the
PCM
- it sees what version you have, then determines what updates it needs to apply - so for an early car like mine, all of the updates went on, whereas on a later car, fewer are needed. Once you've applied the 2 discs, you should be to the latest firmware, thereafter there are Nav DVD related updates that are supplied on the Nav DVD itself.
I agree the semi postcode search is a half baked "patch" but it's better than now't. The 2009 facelift comes with
PCM
3 which is expected to offer at least what other manufacturers are offering, though of course that doesn't help us.
Just to clarify the situtation. "half" postcode search worked fine on my car before I applied any updates.
The Nav update is a sep CD, not on the Nav DVD.
I too have a tick by nav, and triangles by everything else. Not sure if it was like that before, but phone, hi-fi and Nav all working correctly. Only one question - phone comes out of passenger side speaker - thinking that should maybe come from drivers side?
On my car I put in the
pcm
1 update cd and it didnt think it needed it. I put 2 in and that updated some stuff (this disk is called
Motorola
), then I put 1 in again and it decided it did want it. Then I did the Nav update.
All in all I am struggling to se much change. It might all be running a bit smoother / quicker, but that may just be wishful thinking.
The 3 update cd's themselves have barely any data at all. Zipped they total less than 20mb..
Ed..looks like you posted the before and after numbers for the navigation the wrong way round in the original post. The numbers should be larger (later) after the update. For reference to anyone else considering buying this update , looking at the software versions Ed posted ,
porsche
are not giving you anything new . The system and
PCM
software still only takes you to level B software version 3 and navigation update still only takes the navigation software to / 2906 (ie week 29 2006 release).
The earlier map DVD's included the navigation update as part of the MAP DVD , this is now on a separate CD. If you update using the 05.2006 map DVD you will get the same result , though the map is obviosly a little more out of date. After updating using the 05.2006 map , you can then buy a newer map from E bay at a much reduced cost.
Though Ed's car is originally model level B 05024xxx (software version 3) the update does not update the
PCM
to level C 05395xxx/ (software level 4) , so it looks like this is reserved for hardware revisions (
PCM
units 997.642.141.1 and 143.1)
Thanks for posting the info ED, sorry that the update doesn't seem to be that much of a bargain.
The sound is supposed to come from the passenger speaker when using the phone as the microphone for the phone is in the instrument cowl. If the microphone and speaker are too close together you get a high pitched squael called feedback.
The reason you could load the disk 2 is because it only updates the phone and is designed to load regardless of software version. The Cd1 has an update on the phone as well , so it then updates the earlier version you loaded using disk 2.
If anyone wants any help or advice on updating
PCM
's feel free to drop me a PM.

Rob,
Your numbers indicate a
PCM
software version different to Level B or C. Probably the software versions relating to a level B unit that has had the Repair CD installed to overcome Cd skip and MP3 playback issues. I would expect the software version on the screen header to read 3.3 on your unit. Your Navigation firmware is an early version (probably you are running the 05.2005 map DVD). The only updates available for your unit will be for the navigation unit , these will come as part of the newer maps unless you buy a 07/2007 map. Everything else has the current up to date software already installed. The repair Cd for your car has an update and can be purchased direct from

Hi edowen,
I recently purchased a used
cayman s
from UK (55 Plate-Dec/2005)and everytime i turned the ignition on
PCM
gives me the msg:"Single CD Repair Kit".
I don't know if this is an incomplete upgrade or that my
pcm
needs to be upgraded. Everything seems to be working fine including
sports chrono
plus funtions. I can't see the options for the sound plus package which allows fader to be adjusted and SDV curve!
I will try to chk the version numbers today. By the way the car was shipped to Cyprus so I do not know if this matters.
Update:

Your
PCM
has a different level of Target
PCM
software to that originally provided , though it is curious that the software level has not indexed up to 3.3 which is the prescribed level following the update. Your car has indeed recieved the repair kit Cd update , this is usually only applied if the CD drive has had problems or the MP3 playback did not work correctly. I do not beleive the banner message on start up should not be present if the update has been completed sucessfully. There should be no issues from this other than the annoyance of the splash screen at start up.
I have visited workshop today and I they did not seem to be bothered about the msg as everything works fine! Will give you an update if any furhter work is done on my
PCM
.
