hi chaps, thanks for all the advice, it was the MS on the back of the outer door handle, it wasn't opening, so ive readjusted it and ill look at getting a new one fitted.
Leading evidence: 'ms' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'ms' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Disconnect battery' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

As Lloyd says, I don't think your problem is a microswitch.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Evening all,
Just arrived home, opened the door and the window went down 6" instead of the usual 1cm, pressed the 'up' button nothing happened it would only go down.
Swapped over the window switches to see if it was a switch, and the same happened, no up.
Any ideas?
The micro switch 'sound's' like its ok, (clicks)but could it be that thats given up?
I will firstly admit that I haven't had much dealings with the 996 cab but I am sure they wouldn't be too dis-similar to 986 which I have done work on.
Seems you have answered your own question - micro switches in incorrect order.
I bet when you operate the roof handle the window in question only drops by a cm?
This will back up your thought process.

hi, thanks for your reply,
Ive just been up to the car, taken the door panel off, peeled back the nice new membrane (which has just been sorted! ).
I tried the micro-switch which is connected to the inside door handle that is OK, so it must be one of the others.
The problem I've got is that the glass is down so I cant get to the switches on the back of the outer door handle.
Is there any way I can get the window to its up most position? any way I can manually crank it or short circuit it to shut?
Any help would be most helpful as this is doing my head in.
If it is stuck down by 6" the door must be thinking the roof handle has been activated.
What happens if you operate the handle now?
I am 90% there is no manual overide... can't say I have ever looked that close.. never had the need to.
If you can operate the window to go lower then I hate to say this but the easiest way will be undo the glass clamps (T30 Torx I think?) and pull the glass out.
Call me on 07970 079709 I will talk you through it... if I can't answer I will call you back asap.

Lloyd, thank you very much,
I'm going to go back to the car shortly, I've got the tools needed, so Ill have a go at taking the glass out (never thought of that). Ive give you a bell if I get stuck.
To answer your question, I've tried all sorts of combinations, and the window only goes down, never up, that is why its in its down position now.
It started when I got out of the car yesterday, and the window went down 6" instead of the normal 1cm or so, that's why I thought it was going to be the MS on the door card, but it aint.
Thinking.......
If the window is down by 6" I feel that WILL NOT be a door MS fault.
The door has three MS's, one on the latch, one on the handle (which you are trying to access now... don't see it can be this one as this one drops it by 10mm... not 6") then the other is on the inner handle, again just a 10mm drop.
Now then, there is another it is in the header rail. When you operate the handle it activates a switch that lowers all the windows by a few inches. I recken the fault is lurking in here or maybe a module fault.
I had a 986 in with this problem. I started stripping the header rail trim to access the MS at the roof handle and found a trapped wire, when free'd the window went up on it's own. I simply re-rooted correctly and all was fine.
This is a tough one, I do think the fault won't be in the door
Have you tried a re-boot? Disconnect battery and reconnect?
Can you lift the window up by hand? If so, it might be a window regulator cable has snapped.
BTW, there are 7 microswitches switches in the door. One on the inside handle, one on the outside handle, and 5 in the lock mechanism. As Lloyd says, I don't think your problem is a microswitch. More likely the regulator or motor.
