Kept on saying CD upside down - so I tried to clean the laser by taking it apart with no joy.

Plus have you considered a repair, assuming it is a Becker unit (I dont know):

I pulled out of the drive this morning in 1st and went to change into 2nd however the clutch pedal stayed firmly pressed to the floor.

Let me know if you get to fix / replace the sat nav, I've got the same issue !

I stopped, managed to get my foot under the pedal and prize it back up, but the same thing then happened again.
10 seconds later, I've got a brake fluid light on and PSM error. I guess its going to be a hydrolic leak (if they are all fed together?) just really hope its not going to be expensive!!
I've also had a knocking from the front wheels (on full lock left and right) appear over the last week.
To top it off, the sat nav gave up the ghost at the weekend (on my PCM1)
She's currently in the garage and I'm awaiting 'The call'

Yep - spot on - clutch slave cylinder it was.
£90 parts. Labour TBC (expect it to be £300+vat all in)
Bought a Nav system £175 for the PCM1 (out of a broken 996) but the guy doesn't have the code so that is my next challenge.
........Sigh of relief.
I spent 6 months talking the missus into letting me buy a 996, convincing her that a Porsche 'is also an investment!' I'm glad I didn't have to invest some of her savings today!
