I have a 2007 Cayman Base I Recently Put A 4" Crank Pully From Pelican Parts On It And As Soon As I Started The Car My Alternator Started Charging To Just 12 Volts. I Ordered A New Alternator Online And The New One Was Worse Than The Original One So I Sent That One Back And Ordered A Bosche Voltage Regulator From Pelican Parts. I Checked The Main + Wire Harness With A Multimeter And The Ground And They Both Check Out Fine. The Regulator Arrived Today And I Am Going To Install It Tonight But If I Does The Same Thing Not Sure What To Do Next.
Has Anyone Had Any Charging Issues After Installing A Smaller Crank Pulley On Their Cars. Wondering If My Issue Might Be Related To It Since It Started Literally Right After I Installed It. I Have Been Searching And Havent Found Anything Online About It Causing Any Issues At All Tho.
Oh I Noticed The Alternator Issue Because All Of My Dash Lights All The Sudden Started Lighting Up And Then Everything Would Go Dead Repeatedly Then Come Back On And Then Off Again.
I just installed a 4" pulley on my 2008 Cayman S about 5 days ago. Did you enjoy grinding on the engine case?
I started the car and let it idle for a few minutes to confirm it was working. But, I did not notice any lights or other concerns.
How long did it take for you to experience this low voltage issue?
How old is your battery? These cars can sit around a lot and they have a larger voltage drain at rest than most other cars.
Battery is new I found the issue turns out the previous owner rerouted some wiring in the center console and caused the battery cable to alternator to get bound up and chaffed thru the coating when the E-Brake handle was moved up and down and the security control box that is in the center console wiring was also making contact with the E-Brake handle it just so happened that the voltage regulator went out at same time I replaced the pulley. I repaired and rerouted the wiring and replaced the voltage regulator on my original alternator and now everything is working.
Glad you found the solution.
Good to hear there are no problems with the pulley setup.
