I have just done a quick Google and it is patently obvious that nowhere is there a clear statement from Porsche as to whether N rated tyres are designed / modified to match a Porsche specification, or if they are simply existing tyres able to pass the Porsche test requirements.

Personally, I will always use N-rated tyres on a 911, but that's just me.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Had my C2 facelift cab for a few months and just noticed my rear P zeros need replacing which as we know dont come cheap !
shopped around for options and ordered some Hankooks for wait for it £56 each for 285 30 18 thats serious rubber for lil money
less than a third of P zero prices read a few guys on a skyline forum that rate them really highly ,
I accept they are not as good as P zeros but I would not mind a lil more slippyness as i love kicking the tail out , and at that price its worth a punt !
I will let you know what there like when fitted .
Cheers Carl
I've always found that you get what you pay for,
I wouldn't want to risk cheap tyres on my car as that is the part
that keeps me on the road and stops me when I need to stop.
For so little money you're not going to get much of a tyre. :dont know:
TB
+1
Most of the time, those tyres will probably be ok, but come a time when you really need the grip to gain control or stop - are you willing to take the risk for a couple of hundred quid? You can't put a price on life...
can see where you guys are coming from, I just would not always equate
cheap
with
bad
, plenty of threads on 911uk debunking the n-rating system too...
I'm not comparing cheap to N-rated tyres, I'm comparing cheap to better branded non N-rated tyres.
Personally, I will always use N-rated tyres on a 911, but that's just me.
The advice from my dealer in regards to tyres, as I've asked about this before aswell (and somebody please correct me if this is wrong), is that Porsche specify N rated tyres because they are designed with stronger side walls to help with the additional rear loading having the engines in the back of the 911's...
Actually this is intiguing.
I have just done a quick Google and it is patently obvious that nowhere is there a clear statement from Porsche as to whether N rated tyres are designed / modified to match a Porsche specification, or if they are simply existing tyres able to pass the Porsche test requirements.
Plenty of weasel words in most statements on this point.
I think I'd opt for a simple life and stick with N rated, however I'll be fascinated by the feedback on these Hankooks
One golden rule for life though, don't treat anything said to you by a dealer as necessarily being correct. I am involved with dealer / salesforce training and education for one of the major manufacturers and trust me, if they don't know the answer many will feed you a load of bollox in such a convincing fashion you'd believe them.
It always easy to be sceptical at that price. Considering average cost of equivalent is around ~£250 each.
Dont forget that it easy to disregard the benefit of tyres until it goes wrong with a cheaper set.....
However, keep us updated and if you got some pictures of the tyre thread - do post them up...
Woahh lots of opinions here I will keep you posted guys tyres should be here in a couple of days
In my opinion I used to have a Corvette and was told I had to have a specific tyre which was stupid expensive because of the magnesium rims when first minis came out my wife told had to have a specific tyre I ignored both and was very happy with alternatives !
So at that price keen to give it a try! If car handles like a greased baboon or unstable at speed I will put N tyres on but what manufacturers tell you is not always true I will keep you informed as soon as I get them
or if you don't see any more posts I have gone to Porsche heaven in a cloud of dodgy tyre smoke lol
I'm sure OC will mbe along to explain why 'N' rated tyres are in no way better than non N rated
Buy the best tyres availabe within your budget, dont buy N rated just because theyve got a symbol stamped on them.
