I'm in the process of installing a front video camera at the front bumper and I need to run wires through the front firewall. I've looked closely at the upper half of the firewall from within the frunk, but I'm not seeing any straightforward options. I could try to make a path
next
to a large group of wires on either the right or left side, but that's not going to be very easy. These groups of wires go through a large and thick rubber
plug
at a angle. Any ideas? Is it worth looking for a path from below the car? I doubted there would be a suitable path through the lower half, but I'm not sure. I need to get an RCA
plug
through the opening unless I wish to cut and splice the wires, which I could do if necessary. By the way, my car is a
987.2
2010
Boxster
.
On the
987.1
there's a plastic
plug
behind the
battery
that I understand has been use for wire routing. I haven't tried this so YMMV
Although a different model, in my
981
I carefully studied the firewall on the passenger side and found an area behind the cabin air filter where I could drill a hole through without hitting anything on the inside! I looked at the bundles going through on the driver's side and decided that it was too tight and problematic working above the steering column.
The wires from the camera snake under the frunk trim and then under the filter housing into the passenger footwell, there I could make connections to the NAV-TV module.
Remove the plastic covers in the frunk over the
battery
and the washer fluid. To the right of the steering column is rubber bung that you can penetrate easily to pass wires from the steering column area to the frunk. Here's a picture... Please don't judge how dusty it is in there...
Will post picture shortly. Tapatalk isn't making it easy

Follow the yellow wire...
Thanks for the reply. My car does not have the rubber
plug
that you've shown. Mine has a
plug
in that location, but a metal pipe passes through that
plug
(green arrow). There is a similar one a little closer to the driver's side but that also has a line passing through it, probably the brake fluid line. Then farther to the driver's side is a large rubber
plug
with an entire wiring harness passing through it (red arrow). None of these locations look as straight forward as the one you've shown. If I had to use one of these, I would try the larger one but it's hard to get to because of the large metal housing in front of it.
Here is a good thread for general questions and experiences when installing some cameras on the
981
, still not a 987 but might be helpful.

The challenge has been overcome. I ended up making a path through the large rubber insulator that carries the main wiring harness into the interior on the passenger side. It's very much like the one on the driver's side (shown in my picture above), but the access on the frunk side is much better. The access on the interior is worse, but I only had to make the hole from one side and it was easy to do so from the frunk side. I'll post pictures soon. Thanks for suggestions and links, they
led
me to this solution. Now I have to finish the wiring in the passenger compartment and put the frunk back together.
