Just bought a Cayman R and would like to replace the tires with something wider. Currently it has 235/35/19’s on the front and 265/35/19’s on the rear. I know I can go up to 245’s and 275’s comfortably, but was curious if anyone has run a 295/30 on the rear? Thanks in advance.
You can run 295 and probably 305's
I have 255 & 285 with 7 & 15mm spacers which 0.6"
Re: Widest tire for ‘12 “R”?
I have a 13 BS but here are some thoughts. I'd say a 255/35 and 295/30 or 245/35 and 285/30 but depending on tire as I found out with Toyo R888R and Hoosier R7 the SECTION WIDTH for each tire was different in the same size. Check out each tire you plan to buy on Tirerack to see how much they vary and you may have to adjust. I had to add a 10MM spacer when using Hoosiers on the front as the tire sidewall was rubbing the strut with the 255/35. Next set I am downsizing to the 245/35 and may eliminate the spacer.
Curious, do you need to move up to a 10" or 11" rim to run a 295 in the rear?
stock is 10.5; 11 would be better in my mind
Congrats on your purchase - its a wonderful car you got! Don't mod it too much, if you want to keep it's collector status
I am running 295/35/18 on 10' wide rim. I think this is the widest tire that works without other suspension mods. I had a 305/30/19 tires on 19x11' rims on this car when I bought it and they were rubbing the dampers on the inside.
245/30/19 and 295/30/19 would probably be ideal on your rims. 10.5' wide rim is definitely wide enough for a 295 tire. Cayman R stock rims that you have are excellent wheels, they add to the appeal of the car. You may need small spacers to avoid rubbing on the inside (rear) and to improve the look.
Looks like 245/35/19 for the fronts and 295/30/19 for the rears will work. Thanks to all for your input.
Won’t be modifying the R other than an aftermarket exhaust and some R compound tires. I have other modded Porsche’s to play with without having to screw with the R.
