Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

Suggestion

I would always recommend the stock ones to be replaced when needed over an oiled one.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

CAI draws in hot air? http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_question.asp?id={7DD8950D-85E2-4C15-970C-2E1C92FEAB3A} K&N type oiled filters LOSE HP? The stock engines will not flow more air than the stock filter allows. More horse power is lost when installing a lifetime air filter and then allowing it to get plugged up and dirty. http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_question.asp?id={9FD3C522-3ED5-4939-A33C-D93558C2FE74}???? If, in fact, the car cannot draw more air than the OEM filters allow, it would seem this modification is a waste of money?

POST 2Original post

No what I think they mean by that is the engine draws in whatever the air filter allows, stock or otherwise, and thus a hi-flow filter might let more air in initially until it gets dirty/clogged in which case it will allow less. That's how I read that, and that is what is accurate, but I agree the wording is somewhat confusing.

POST 3Original post

Yes, he is saying that by saying More horse power is lost when installing a lifetime air filter and then allowing it to get plugged up and dirty. However, reading closely he says I would always recommend the stock ones to be replaced when needed over an oiled one. The oiled filters do not filtrate as well ... The stock engines will not flow more air than the stock filter allows. [boldface mine] If the stock engines will not flow more air than the stock filter allows, then buying an oiled one does nothing. True? or not?

POST 4Original post

The two important components of an air filter are flow and filtration. Filtration has to do with the micron rating - think how tight the fabric is. Flow is affected by the number of pleats in the element - think surface area - More is better. I have rarely seen an after-market filter have as many pleats as a stock element. What they tend to do is have a smaller surface area with a greater flow in the sense that the material isn't as dense (meaning dirt can enter you engine). That is the reason for the oil. And an oil bath air cleaner is actually better than a dry element. However, these oil treated filters aren't exactly an oil bath, so it will clot and needs to be cleaned at specified intervals or the engine will not perform as well.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
