0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'closing comments' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'closing comments' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Run of 20 built would be higher rather than lower' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I am now leaning towards a stock CS although when it really comes time to purchase I will be very happy to buy any used CS with Adaptive Sports Seats that I can afford.

There is probably a bigger second hand market than first for a car like this because everyone will want a deal.

Suggestion
As far as the resale, I believe that the resale of one of a limited run of 20 built would be HIGHER rather than lower.

Suggestion
The GTR is being produced in a limited run of only 20 cars with each vehicle built to the owner's individual specifications as either a complete vehicle or using the customer's own supplied Cayman.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Is this something serious to look at. How does it do compared to a GT3 and what would resale value be like. Looks really interesting but i'm not sure these aftermarket cars are a good idea or not performance wise because i'm not sure they have the same resources to do testing and all but at the same time they are going for all out performance without politics to worry about.
3.8 liter GTR - based on the Porsche Cayman platform
As any automotive engineer will quickly point out, a mid-engine layout is optimum for maximum handling and overall performance. With the Cayman, Porsche has created a truly impressive mid-engine vehicle. Farnbacher Loles Motorsports has taken the Cayman S and created the awesome GTR. The GTR significantly improves upon the Cayman's already impressive performance in both acceleration and handling, and wrapped it in a jaw-dropping exterior. The GTR is being produced in a limited run of only 20 cars with each vehicle built to the owner's individual specifications as either a complete vehicle or using the customer's own supplied Cayman.

Old News
The GTR is old news and has appeared on the covers of a couple of mags. Having said that, it's a nice turn key vehicle for some one with the bucks. There is probably a bigger second hand market than first for a car like this because everyone will want a deal. So, in response to your question, re-sale will be worse than on a stock Cayman (S).
But this is not any kind of officially sanctioned Porsche from the factory ... correct?
Its just an aftermarket company modding the car, giving it a name, and selling them. Its not like a M car from BMW under the M Division, a JCW car from MINI from John Cooper Works sanctioned by MINI, or an AMG from Benz. Its more like a well-known tuner putting parts together and giving it another name
Would it even care the Porsche warranty? I doubt it.
Having tried to access Farnbacher Loles website several times this evening and finding something entirely different from what I have previously seen, I wonder if Farnbacher Loles had had their website hi-jacked. Or, heavens forbid, if Farnbacher Loles is experiencing experiencing difficulties, perhaps even troubles in staying afloat! I hope not because their GTR is one car I would like to have.
Joe, F-L's web site problem is resolved. I don't believe they're having any trouble staying afloat. ...just a minor problem ensuring that their domain name registration is kept up-to-date.
FWIW, I understand your inclinations toward the GTR.
Farnbacher Loles Site is up and GTR is up 411 HP!
Yes, the Farnbacher Loles site is up and well tonight. As I had, and that is past tense, a deposit with them and due to dire straits was forced to cancel my order, I still wish for one. So, I am keeping up with them.
Last winter, I was so sorely dissappointed in the CS I drove and its pitifully poor take off and the just plain lack of power, that I could see why it costs so little, but it also comes with little in the way of options. And when I had finished pricing one the way I wanted it, it was above nicely equipped 911 territory.
As far as the resale, I believe that the resale of one of a limited run of 20 built would be HIGHER rather than lower. Sure, it is not a factory build but much better. This is what Porsche should have done with it to call it an "S" model.
The GTR may be "old" news but I would love to have one of FL's 911 eaters. And I'd prefer the current normally aspirated beast just to keep down operating costs and to have a more driveable vehicle.
That said, I wonder what their dual Turbo version will do! That is coming and I would not be suprised if FL hit or exceeded 500 HP in that line up.
FL says they expect Porsche to warranty all of it that is Porsche, including their X-51 engine but that they would warranty whatever Porsche failed to cover.
Do other well known tuner cars sell for less than their common factory builds? No, not even on resale.
And what did the 959 sell for when ordered? $259,000 new. And how much could the owner take upon delivery a year and a half after he placed his deposit down for one? A cool mil or even more. Even today, a street legal version easily brings $600,000-700,000.
CaymanGTR Update April 27 -- GTR=GaToR
Recently, I checked in with Roger Gabow at Farnbacher-Loles. I was wondering if anyone was racing their CaymanGTR and how production is progressing. Here's what Roger emailed back:
"We do not professionally race the GTR or any Caymans for that matter. Porsche does not approve of the Cayman being pro raced at this time. Although many of our modified Caymans are being driven on tracks in various D.E and track day events and PCA races. . . .
Regarding the GTR, production is moving right along. As it turns our, red is a very popular color as we have built 5. We have also done gray and silver, but no yellows yet! The horsepower is switchable from 391-411 depending on the octane of fuel you are running. And we now have a fully compatible PASM based Bilstein suspension upgrade."
It was the closing comments that caught my eye. Bilstein is great and the PASM compatibility encourages me to think the GTR, "GaToR," may be soft enough for me for touring.
Having read everything I could and especially having access to this forum,
[Thank you, Ken. I have this watched this club grow and I am certain you have a large measure of satisfaction from it! Kudos. You deserve it! ]
I am now leaning towards a stock CS although when it really comes time to purchase I will be very happy to buy any used CS with Adaptive Sports Seats that I can afford. Stock 18" wheels and PASM and I am certain it will be great daily driver.
Now, a query for the forum:
:helpme:
Why is Porsche not racing the CaymanS?
What would it take for Porsche to race and support the CaymanS thus?
Might it not be better to "force Porsche's hand," to borrow another member's motto, into upgrading the mid-engined platform by bringing the model into "maturity" by race proving the CaymanS?
How is it that Porsche must "approve" the pro racing of the Cayman?
Having had only one P-car, a grey market 924 at that that was in miserable shape when the cretain who foisted it off on me sold it, I know very little about Porsche po racing.
Ken, you might be able to matching Speed Yellow Caymans yet! According to Roger's report there is no GTR in yellow yet but I am certain F-L would love to do one. And that X-51 engine would look better under glass.
F-L gets a lot of factory support for their race efforts and does not want to piss Porsche off.I assume that Porshe doesnot want to race the Cayman because something like the GTR would woop on 911 based racers causing 911 buyrs to take a closer look at the Cayman.F-L is limiting production of these GTR cars most likely based on a request from Porsche. I hope I can get my CS converted before time runs out.
Bilstein has PSS9 (derivative) dampers that integrate with PASM. Somewhat hard to come by, from what I've heard. Or rare, anyway... but definitely attainable.
