I think it’ll be bigger than that...has similar incremental improvements but the engine issue is a big one.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Is it worth 45K more, for a 3 year newer car with a known major issue resolved, I think it probably is and the market agrees.
Hi,
I've been looking at 991 GT3's for the past 6 months and am getting ready to take the plunge
Currently there is about a £45k difference between a gen 1 and gen 2
Surely this makes the Gen 1 a no brainer even given the well reported engine issues?
The cheapest OPC Gen 1 I can find is a smidge over £100k with the cheapest Gen 2 example at £145k
Thoughts?
I'm in the same camp. I had a 991.1 gt3 and never thought I wanted more.
So a large part of me says just stick with the 991.1 and the heart says a manual .2
Certainly a lot of cash.
That said if you can afford it why would you not try both and see if you think the extra is worth it?
Manual gearbox for the .2 is, for me, a big plus point, but is it a £45k plus point I’m not sure.
Had both back to back and still have the .2
.1 is a great car but engines are a worry, not so much now but if you buy a 14 year and keep it for another two then you are very close to being on your own if there is a problem!
Differences
.2 Engine feels sublime and revs more freely, you also notice the improved torque.
.2 feels a little more compliant on the road
If you say £45k and look at the sum of the parts it doesn’t look worth it, all I can say having done it is that it was worth it.
Also for the money you spend it’s not just 45k for the difference in bits, you will probably be comparing a 14/15 year car against a 17/18 year car,so that’s another benefit a 2-3 year newer car as well
I could not pass on the PDK,it’s brilliant and makes it just like a race car!
Hope that helps
.1
.2
If you can afford the extra I think one way to look at it is how much extra is it going to cost to own the .2 and also are you going to track the car. If you are going to track the car then I would get a .2 as it seems to be that track use is what can cause the engine issues (someone much more knowledgable than I posted about this recently) with the .1.
On the cost front as Juno said....if you own the car for three years then you’re getting close to the expiration of the 10 yr engine warranty. Personally I think this will see depreciation accelerate for the .1. Yes you can extend the warranty up to 15 years but this isn’t the same as a factory warranty and we don’t know what the cost of that will be...likely they may increase the cost specifically for the .1 at that point.
Even if that’s all rubbish I reckon over three years the price difference for the two cars will still be £20k (similar to 997.1 and .2)...though I think it’ll be a bigger difference for the manual.
But then I am biased as I’ve got a manual .2. It’s bloody fantastic.
If you want a ride in one I am in the Bucks/Herts area.

8000 mils in a .1 and 3500 in a .2 so far.
.2 is better in every way overall. .1 does sound a bundle more mechanical though which i do miss tbh.
Would choose the .2 if it were me. The possible future engine issues of the .1 is just too grey.
I'm going driving both back to back next week and will make a decision
I agree on the point that whilst its £45k dearer its a 3 or 4 year newer car which is not to be ignored
Its a nice conundrum to have choosing which one to have

from a quick glance on PH ads 134k and it is private sale and still over list ,cheapest cars at dealers are about 10k more.
The 991.1 GT3 is now the pick of the bunch in terms of value for money - they are now below list price. The 991.2 is still over list and this will come down when the next GT3 comes out in even greater numbers and they aren't the latest new and shiny thing.
Expect the price difference to be much like the 997.1 vs 997.2 GT3 long term.

Well, the market has decided the gen 2 is 45k better! It's surely, however, up to the individual to decide if they can justify the premium.
Porsche almost always fix the issues of the gen 1 when introducing the new car. With the 996.2 we got a better gearbox, better brakes and a more manic top end. With the 991.2 the engine has been sorted. And for me that's worth a massive chunk of the premium. Much more so than for previous versions. Factor in the manual gearbox and its a no brainer.
Yes, the 992 is coming and presumably in ever greater numbers but as has been said on another thread we will see the killjoy regulations taking grip. So, it could be the 991.2 remains the pick of the bunch.
I am biased of course
The gen 2 engine is aside from the reliability issue ,just a noticeably better engine ,I always felt the gen 1s lacked torque .
Also the damping on the gen 2 is in a different league .
There are other minor points but the gen2 is a better car ,whether it is 45k better is down to ones preferences and bank Balance.

You'll probably enjoy driving the 991.2 more but won't think it's worth £45k more than the 991.1. I enjoyed driving the GT4 more than the 991.1 GT3 but a manual 991.2 GT3 is something else ... till the new GT4 or 992.1 GT3 comes along

I think it’ll be bigger than that...has similar incremental improvements but the engine issue is a big one. As these cars get older the owners to to fall into two groups a) get used properly (i.e. on track) or b) only come out of the garage for a few hundred miles a year (if that). The owners that want to track these cars will favour the .2 quite heavily I think.

with the .1 engine it's when it will fail not if.
if you track the car it seems they will fail, just cheaper for Porsche to replace when they fail over a full recall as they know a lot sit in garages unused.
but the trackers seem to be on 4 engines so they are making up for the garage queens atm !
Basic maths.

was it not the 9K limit which triggers these fails, hence the RS limit was dropped and why only tracked cars fail.
I guess sports plus also gives the full 9k and hence the repeated fails on tracked cars.
a better recall would have been to drop the rev limit on all 991.1 GT3 to RS spec.
I would not touch one with a barge pole myself.
Like a few on here I have had both 991 GT3's and loved the .1 when I had it.
Still drive a .2 as a daily and have to agree with those who feel the car is that little better in many areas. The engine and damping are the biggest, but the diff setup and RWS calibration also feel better to me.
I am sure the newer generation of tyres also help the car and the updated PCM, availability of manual transition and other improvements are also benefits.
The engine issue would be the biggest worry for me for long term ownership, but I am sure a specialist will come up with a fix or mod to resolve any issue when the factory no longer cover them.
Is it worth 45K more, for a 3 year newer car with a known major issue resolved, I think it probably is and the market agrees. Will the difference stay at that, I doubt it, but do feel it may well be bigger than the 997.1 and 997.2.
That is not to say a 991.1 GT3 is a bad car and still for 100K is hard to beat, whichever you choose you will have a great car.

steering feel also much better in the .2, they have just about nailed EPS now.
997.2 GT3 now more expensive than 991.1's, imo there will always be a big gap in price from the 991.1 GT3 to the 991.2, that's even without the manual options which will be key going forward 4 or 5 years.
with new cars having petrol filters and black box's we have hit a sweet point again in the 991.2 GT3 like the 997.2 cars were another past sweet point.
Porsche seem to make a lot of mistakes but when they get a model right it's very nice. now about those shock turrets in the new cars !!!
.2 is clearly a better car but I think with the engine warranty a .1 represents great value, especially for those of us that aren't comfortable with the overs on a .2
The main reason I found it hard to justify the current cost on a .2 was the value of a lightly used 720s coming into a similar pricepoint over the next year. We all know these cars depreciate differently but from a £ to performance perspective it becomes hard not to feel a generation behind.

Buy what feels right to you, Mac ownership is a very different prospect to Porsche ownership. It’s not just depreciation you need to worry about, all bills are higher. You can’t deny the speed of these cars, but I know very few owners who have a trouble free ownership experience.
I do agree it’s not a case of if but when the .1 engine suffers finger follower wear and throws a check engine light.
Some on Rennlist are on the 4th .1 engine with Porsche insiders apparently not confident that the .1 fixes really solve the issues.
I cannot recall regretting spending a little more to get something better, but have on occasion regretted not doing so.
You pays your money and takes your chances.

Do you still have the manual 991.2? Seems like they're relatively rare
