I reckon year old ones at 80k by then, new Carrera T's now sub £100k, so used ones need to be that price to get people to bite.

Look at used prices on 991.1 cars now, no real difference between a 2012 and 2014 car, more about spec and mileage.

The more narrow you are with your spec the less likely a bargain, in my case there are actually no cars on the market in the colour/interior I am looking for, so zero chance of a discount.

Yes i've heard that the 992.2 is due to be released around Spring next year so that may affect the prices of 992.1 and im guessing the prices could drop further next year but to be honest I'm ready to buy now and have been waiting quite a while so may just take the plunge on something I like.

It may be different for a relatively more abundant car like a base 992, but I suspect discounts may only apply to colours you don't like...There seems to be no hurry to sell these cars, despite high interest rates etc.

Hi guys,
Im in the market for a fairly new 'low mileage' used Porsche 992 base Carrera
When do you think would be the best time of the year to grab a bargain on a 992 Coupe? I was thinking maybe mid December when activity is low with these types of cars, people busy with Christmas and winter season so not much buyer activity? Or maybe in the New Year??
Any other months that you guys recommend??

I'd wait until next year if you want to see prices dropping.
But if you want the car, near year end could be a good time.

When you say year end, should I be looking just after Christmas then? Maybe Boxing Day onwards? Or wait until New Years? Im guessing quarter end and year end would be late December to grab the best bargain? Or later in January/February when it is really cold and no one wants sports cars??

Whats your budget and are you buying for cash, or from a dealer with finance etc?
Mid December.
The big PLC dealers will be trying to get their stock holding down for year end accounts and porsche will be pushing them for new car regs as well with pre regs

Budget around £80k, probably put down about £60k and finance the other £20k

So would you say before Christmas or just after? I’d be looking at a used 992 with low mileage, so I’m guessing this sort of thing would be in their inventory of stock holding that they would want to reduce down for year end accounts?

Before Xmas, a lot of decision makers will be off from 22nd

You think so?
So I’m guessing anytime between 15th December and around 21st December, I should be able to gain a decent bargain and maybe haggle a little?
I’ve found a couple with specs that I like, hope they are still around by then. If not, I’m sure they’ll be plenty still around in Dec.

Agreed, I was replying to prior comment made by another that he'd buy a new one with that budget - which he wouldn't as you can't.
In all seriousness Id just keep a close eye on the porsche uk web site as occasionally cars come up that are being sold below market.
992 wise theres a 4 y/o 22k mile gt silver for £81.5k and a 3 y/o 13.5k mile red car for £86k - both appear ok value, particularly the silver one
If buying a car outside of manufacturer new car warranty then i'd buy from a main dealer.

I wouldn’t expect to find a 992 with a £20k discount.
What I am saying is that £20k,(maybe even less) is not enough of a discount for me not to want a brand new one.
I think it’s worth paying to have a brand new car and be the first owner.

Cool, thanks for the heads up in regards to keeping a close eye on the Porsche UK website. May I ask, does the Porsche website show vehicles that are not advertised on Autotrader??

Unfortunately, I don't have the extra £20k in my budget.
If you are buying on a PCP it may be worth looking at the C2S as well. The increased residuals sometimes mean the monthly payment is the virtually the same as a base Carrera with the same deposit but a on a more expensive car. I found this to be the case when I bought my C2S from a Porsche main dealer in April.

Hmmm...intresting, I didn't realise that the residuals are better on a C2S. Yeah, i'd be looking to put down around £60k and the rest on a loan or possibly PCP, depending on the rates available. I want to own the car outright within around 3-4 years, so not sure on the best option for me.
Sorry, deleted my reply.

BCA have lightly used 992 2020 C4Ss available now @£75k buy it now. I was looking this morning all grade 1/2 with 2 sets of keys and all the rest of it.
2 blue ones and one grey one.
I doubt I will see a year old one after Christmas for less than 80 k, the planet is not going to stop turning.

Isn’t BCA auctions only available to car traders? What sort of cars are available at the auction? Do they have Porsche warranties? I’ve looked online and apparently need a traders login??
Should we expect a drop in 992.1 prices once the 992.2 is officially unveiled and released to the market next year? When are we expecting the first 992.2 cars to arrive to the market in the UK? Maybe I could hold out for a short while longer to gain a bargain on a used 992.1, rather not wait all the way until summer next year though.

BCA is trade only, Collecting cars is a public auction site but not the same through put obviously.

992.2 will probably be revealed Sept 24 for MY25 I would think. How it normally works.
To be honest with you, you can see/follow prices as well as everyone else. Just keep looking and when when you see a car you would like to own and it is affordable buy it.
You can get a 992 now within budget, it might be 3.5 years old, but Porsche warranty is superb and cheap compared to everyone else.
Also, I don't think age on a Porsche is as important compared to other cars. If they have the options you want so what if it is 2 or 3 years old? Even the sub £80k cars only have 20k miles on them.
How long will you keep it?
Look at used prices on 991.1 cars now, no real difference between a 2012 and 2014 car, more about spec and mileage.
The thing that will mess things up is what Porsche start offering on new cars in regards to discounts, subsidised finance etc.
You can see it now with BMW, now offering discounts and finance rate of 4.9%.
Making a new car cheaper than any used one out there if using finance.
The difference with Porsche is their finance rate tends to be the same for new or used.
It is a strange time to buy, but only if you thought you would buy a £100,000 Porsche and not lose money on it. Reality check, before 2020 they lost 40-50% in the first 3-4 years.
Go in knowing that and enjoy the car, if it does better than that...brilliant, it's a bonus. If it does worse, stay in it for another couple of years and enjoy it some more till the depreciation curve levels out, always has done, always will.
As said a couple of pages back, who knows where you could be in another 12 months? Get one, drive the nuts off it and have fun.
If the world really does get to the point where it is only worth a few grand, then to be honest there will be far more to worry about than how much money you have lost on your car.
Get one bought and enjoy it!
Or go and buy a £39k 991 that will loose maybe £2k a year over the next few years. A few about now.
When will be the ‘right time’ yes prices may drop but then will there be less on the market as people decide to hold on? Less available so you get something with the spec you don’t want?
I got my 992 C2S back in March, on about 7k miles, yes I could have waited for prices to fall, end of summer, Christmas, ‘24 when people continue to be anxious of prices?
Yes I’ll have take a hit on the price but I’ve done nearly 4K in the car, including half of that with the other half, a 10 month old puppy - 2 weeks worth of luggage. Driving through Luxembourg, southern Germany, and France - had a great time, if we all worried about depreciation too much then you’re just prolonging the enjoyment! My 2 pence, if you’re looking and can afford it, jump in with 2 feet!
I agree with Ed.Neumann - just get on with it basically.
You cannot predict the future-apart from death and taxes.
I do have a trade account with BCA and have been keyed into buying cars since the early 90's when I was qualifying to be an automotive engineer.
The great thing about trade sales is you are generally bidding only £100 more than someone else- who probably knows what they are talking-about and also wants to make a profit. So it is difficult to overpay for anything.
I dont do that much of it these days, I do not have time.
Plenty of my friends do and nothing much changes. One new thing is that there is a general resistance to dealing in electric cars, as high as I have ever known it-in the trade.
It is not seasonal, buyers are there right up to the last Christmas sales and they are also buying at the first auctions at the beginning of Jan in the New Year. Even convertibles and motorbikes.
The professional buyers have £large stocking budgets and buying targets to meet, its a full time job for many. They will not overpay for anything.
We Buy Any car is owned by BCA. That is where many of the cars end up. Not all of the BCA stock offered comes from there of course.
Any remaining warranty on a vehicle sold at auction automatically gets transferred to the new owner anyway. Even when they are out of warranty, if the car has been looked after by the dealer network they usually cough up significantly through goodwill in my experience-up to about 5 years old and 60,000 miles.
You cannot judge values by asking prices, as these are all over the place, you need actual sale prices and reported sales volumes.
There are plenty of buyers out there who dont require finance, so not everyone is at the mercy of high car finance prices. It certainly has affected the overall market though I would guess, although most sales figures seem quite strong.
As a general rule, all models of 911 (like many sports cars) have retained value very well, even going back 30 years of so. That was one of the key reasons I bought a 992 personally as depreciation is usually the highest cost of ownership unless you are on a cheap rental of PCP deal.
Almost everything seems to shed value like crazy from new. This has always been the case.
I have seen the car market with interest rates at 14%, various declarations of war and embargoes, Aids, Brexit, Covid, the Northern Rock Crisis and a whole host of macro economic and social debacles.
I am sure these thing have affected trading figures for dealer groups a bit, but for the individual buyer, I dont think it has made much of a difference. I have never seen a cascade in prices. I do watch the EV market a bit and wonder where that is going.

Nice! You can't put a price on that either.
We are living in a time where we can now easily spend £8k on a family holiday, and not even anything flash, something booked with Tui or the like.
Yet the thought of losing £8k on a years worth of fun in a nearly new 911 seems to send shivers down us.
Let's be honest, if you are borrowing £20k over say 3 or 4 years, then if the car is worth half at £40k at the end, you won't really care. That money is gone and you have 4 years worth of memories. I think we worry about the depreciation before it happens more than when it has already happened.

A very late reply, but I have been watching the market for the car I am looking for (991.2 GTS) closely for a couple of months. No shifts in price and also very few cars sold, some disappear and then reappear. The more narrow you are with your spec the less likely a bargain, in my case there are actually no cars on the market in the colour/interior I am looking for, so zero chance of a discount. Also very few stock additions right now.

Yes but for how long can they hang onto these cars in their forecourts without sales? And risk depreciation? They will need to start offering decent discounts in the next year for sure?
Also, while stating the obvious, every car offered onto the market has a seller. And they are going to be just as aware that it is a slow time to sell cars as we are.
If you don't absolutely have to sell, I suspect this is not a time you would sell. So I don't expect a great plethora of fresh stock onto the classifieds in the next couple of months. Sadly for me.
