Total bill was £1566 including fitting and VAT which included removal of the redundant CD autochanger as well as a Dension iPod unit that a previous owner had fitted into the glovebox.

Not sure about the cost justification but I have always used OEM stuff on my cars.

I agree the front fitted USB isn’t perfect (and can’t work out why they didn’t fit a port on the back of the unit to allow you to run a hidden cable) but I think a right angle USB adapter and then run a cable under the trim along the centre console might be a compromise.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I’m picking up my new to me 997.1 next Friday!
The PCM unit is toast, so I’m getting Precision Porsche to swap it out….question is what unit? Only requirement is wireless connectivity for Apple Car play. The car has the Bose upgrade.
What do people recommend / or what do you have?

I have a good condition PCM 2 with frunk OEM CD changer and correct carpet set for frunk. Not sure if you can get it to work with Apple Car Play?
A few have gone for this and swear by it.

The silver doesn’t match the Porsche silver and looks dreadful in my opinion once in situ.

£800? Why not just pay an extra £400 and get the proper replacement from Porsche?

Where are you finding the PCCM for £1.2k?!

I paid £1179 for mine from my local OPC with PCGB discount a few months ago. Admittedly the OPC then wanted around another £600 to fit it but I did it myself using the online guides.
Is the price you quote above inc fitting? Surely prices haven’t gone up that much over the last few months? One other point to explore is the discount you get from being part of the classic register. Costs nothing to join and offers:

I bought the pccm+ for my 997.1 and had it fitted by Strasse in Leeds this summer . Has been fine since.
The Porsche sat nav is a bit clunky and sometimes loses satellite for a bit in sticks but mirroring my phone is great and the best bit is all the cars functions work through the small tacho screen, steering wheel controls and the trip computer/ sport chrono.
voice control through SIRI means i can control all functions like phone and sat nav with hands on the wheel.
£2.7k for the PCCM+ and a rear camera, fitted. They took the old CD changer and nav DVD units out too. It talks to everything in the car.
I’m very happy with it, though a silly amount to pay when I read of other makes of ICE.

here for £600 less than Design911 Shop
£1179.60 with VAT.
Don't have invoice to hand but think I paid about 1400 ish inc Vat but decided against rear view camera . Had a new sat nav aerial and a few new clips and trim screws to make it a perfect as new install. The car interior is perfect and I wanted an OEM+ finish that looked factory.

These things are excellent fit and finish. Worth every penny in my book.
Thanks to the lads at Precision Porsche!
congrats. so you can justify the Porsche Tax now?
Not sure about the cost justification but I have always used OEM stuff on my cars.
The replacement is quite good overall and certainly is perfectly matched:.The screen quality is not great though for a modern item.

I’ve had PCCM fitted this week but I’ve been too busy with work to drive the car since. I will get a chance this weekend but an initial test of things Wednesday evening had my iPhone connected and working, trip functionality and steering wheel buttons all doing what they should, and Waze and Spotify all fine via CarPlay.

Either way, I’ve got phone integration so calls and media via Bluetooth plus DAB and it’s all OEM so that’s enough for my needs.

I wouldn‘t mind the price, but launching this in 2023 with visible SD card and USB A port in the front is unacceptable.

But wouldn't this solve it, plugged in the front usb port?

From an aesthetic pov? No, not at all. I don‘t want to look at an aftermarket dongle when I‘m looking at my brand new £1k+ oem Porsche head unit. No way!
996 pccm+ looks much better integrated.

but that micro one only juts out a few mm and would look like a cap.

I know that I‘m properly keen on details like this, but yes it bothers me that it would stand out. Also it is not symmetrical.
I would have preferred if the ports would be in a external box that would sit hidden below the PCM. Just like the 996 unit.

How fiddly was it to fit yourself?

I think on Rennlist someone worked out how to do that by tapping into it from behind (required opening up) then channeling a hidden lead through to wherever they wanted it.
