Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I adjusted the short-throw stick to climb the detent farther before reaching full travel, and I can't say that I have noticed that "slightly out of channel" feel since.

Leading evidence: 'Adjust short-throw stick' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'human factors limit' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust short-throw stick' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

That's probably the human factors limit for a somewhat-short-armed person.

Almost as it if in neutral it were set few millimeters to far to the left.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

When I put the car in first and second, the shifter when pushed forward goes in and then by itself guides itself to the right. Almost as it if in neutral it were set few millimeters to far to the left. Normal, or should I check another car. I have the factory short shifter. Tomasz

POST 2Original post

When I was installing my short shifter (B&M), I found that the lateral adjustment affected how far I could move the shifter to the left before encountering the reverse detent. My stock stick would barely climb the detent before reaching full left travel, and I sometimes felt that the stick wanted to move to the right as I put it into first. I adjusted the short-throw stick to climb the detent farther before reaching full travel, and I can't say that I have noticed that "slightly out of channel" feel since. The problem with playing with the adjustment is that they are under the console aft of the shifter and I do not know if you can gain access without removing the console - a non-trivial job. On the other hand, if you take the console out, you can adjust the neutral position of the stick in both lateral and longitudinal position. I adjusted mine such that the shift to 5th did not require my arm to fully extend. That's probably the human factors limit for a somewhat-short-armed person. If you are tall with long arms, the limit may well be elbow-seat interference shifting into 2nd. Mechanically, there is nothing in the console that would present a "second gate" feel. There is no "H" pattern guide, just the cable tension and centering for the lateral and longitudinal cables.
