Suggestion

I'm concerned that if they disassemble the door handle to clean/regrease the mechanism, that when they reassemble it, the squeak will be gone, but now maybe the latch no longer recesses fully into the door.

I would have literally grabbed his hand after he said "all Porsches are like that" gone to the nearest Cayman or Porsche for that matter and used the handle right infront of him.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

My door handles emit a loud high pitch squeak when you pull up on them. Anyone else experiencing this? I took it to my local dealership and the service person said there really wasn't anything they could do about it. He sprayed some sort of lubricant into the 2 holes on either side of the door handle, but it didn't help. He then said that all Porsches are like that, although on my way out of the dealership, I tried the door handles of 4 Caymans and they were all silent.

POST 2Original post

I had the same experience on my passenger's door handle when you would release the handle or put it back to its resting position. Nevermind the noise, but it was embarassing! When I picked someone up, they were blown away by the car, but that atmosphere (well at least to me ) was ruined when they opened the door to hear the noise of a door hinge that's rusted for 50 years and hasn't even seen an ounce of lubricant. When I took my car in for the 20,000 mi checkup, I told them a list of problems I was having with the car, which included the handle squeak and a 1/16" lager sized gap/ droop on the left side of the plastic beverage trim consealer. When I picked the car up, they corrected the handle squeak and made it sound like new again. It's been 3,500 miles since the fix and the squeak has not returned. "the service person said there really wasn't anything they could do about it....He then said that all Porsches are like that" DO NOT accept this lame excuse!!! I am baffled that service tech even said that for such a "minimal" problem Heck if he has to order a new handle, then so be it! You should not have to live with a squeaky handle on a car of this caliber or that kind of service from your tech. I would have literally grabbed his hand after he said "all Porsches are like that" gone to the nearest Cayman or Porsche for that matter and used the handle right infront of him. Again, do not accept his lame answer because he clearly hadn't tried everything... or anything it "sounds" like (couldn't resist ). And if the problem still persists after he manually disasembles the entire door mechanism, cleans and lubricates all the working bits then tell him to order another handle and/or the little working pieces inside to correct it. Remember, you're not asking for the tech guy to disassemble the engine, clean it and put it back together so you can continue to produce the factory acclaimed emissions that you may have lost overtime... For Pete's sake people it's a door handle!!! :wall: Sorry for the rant, but I just hate it when your local dealership treats you like a child and acts like your car has terminal illness that can't be fixed, simply because they gave up after one attempt/ diagnosis, when it can be easily fixed if they only try a little harder.

POST 3Original post

When I hear responses like "they are all like that", I figure the problem isn't with the handle, but with the service level. So I generally respond with "Who's the customer here?" You need to squeak louder, until they want to resolve the problem. BTW, my car doesn't have any squeaks, whatsoever.

POST 4Original post

Thanks golfguy and fmarshall for your feedback. At least I know there are 6 Caymans (your two, plus the 4 I tested at the dealership) whose door handles don't squeak Interestingly, the squeak has gotten a little worse since the tech sprayed the lubricant into the door handles. Plus, the lubricant apparently seeped out of the door handles overnight, because there were small streams of it down the side of my door this morning *sigh*. I'm thinking this may be one of those issues where the "fixes" that the service people try are worse than the original symptom. E.g. I'm concerned that if they disassemble the door handle to clean/regrease the mechanism, that when they reassemble it, the squeak will be gone, but now maybe the latch no longer recesses fully into the door. I think I'll try a different dealership and ask them what their proposed solution will be.

POST 5Original post

I always say "OK, I'll make a deal with you and the dealership GM. I'll go try it on a new car on your lot, and if it doesn't do (whatever) I get that car, free of charge. Deal? I mean if they all do it…"

POST 6Original post

Has anyone had any luck with their squeaky door handles? My passenger handle has been doing it for a few months. Brought the car in today for service and also told them about the handle. They said they lubed it, but it still squeaks the same.:helpme:

POST 7Original post

My outside driver handle squeeked, among a few other nit-picky items I had after initial CPO purchase. They fixed it so there is no more squeek now. I also had the cup holder door issue, which was replaced to my satisfaction. I even complained that my inside rearview mirror would slowly lower over time which caused me to re-adjust once a week or so. They trusted me and replaced it w/o the need to recreate the problem. Like others have said, their excuse is B*** Sh*t.
