I have a
2006 Cayman S
- and it was in storage for a month while I was moving...
Needless to say, the
battery
is no longer holding a charge. New
Battery
from
Porsche
is $275. The Wal Mart
battery
is $109.
My question is does the car have a setting for a new
battery
that needs to be set (in the computer system, like
BMW
and Mercedes)? I have seen batteries fry due to self-installing the
battery
in newer
BMW
's.
I have the Durametric and there is no setting there - just wanted to make sure.
No
battery
setting. Just fit and go.
You'll get some errors on the dash and then after driving they'll disappear.
Have you checked the fluid levels and see if the current
battery
can be salvaged? Sometimes you never know.

Hello irishfred;
Yes, as the other gentleman posted, you can get a
battery
for about 1/2 the price as
Porsche
gets, - and a hundred bux is a hundred bux - but consider this:
Suppose the
battery
(either third-party or
Porsche
) shorts out and destroys the
alternator
in the process. You have your baby towed to
Porsche
to be repaired. You haven't got a leg to stand on if you have a non-
Porsche
-installed
battery
. However, if you have a
Porsche
-install
battery
, depending on your relationship with the dealer, they will either write-off the whole repair - or give you a good discount.
I worked for a MAJOR computer company - and if a customer was loyal and used our parts, a lot of the times we'd look-away at something we could have billed them for.
I always let
Porsche
take care of everything on my toys. Yes, - I pay ''premium price'' - but I also rest assured that if something goes wrong I'll have the Service-Writers on my side.

I just replaced the original
battery
in my 2006 last month with an Interstate that has better Cold Cranking Amps rating for around $180 installed at the
Interstate Battery
Center. Their install fee is $5 which includes plugging a
battery
into the cigarette lighter so the car has power while replacing. They took readings before and after just to make sure. Everything works fine afterwards with no error messages. My local
Porsche
Service Adviser has no concerns. But then again I am out of warranty on the car.
I agree to some extent with going with factory/dealership parts and service but I draw the line with tires and battery. No need to fork out extra money for the rare possibility of having issues in my opinion. But I respect those that want to pay premium price for peace of mind I know some that would probably buy gas at the Porsche dealership if it were available.
You might want to read the several page long
battery
replacement thread, I'll leave the search to you. When my CPO
battery
went down for the count the dealer wouldn't replace it and mentioned they use
Interstate batteries
because the
Porsche
batteries don't work well. I installed a
Bosch
for about $100 and moved on. Others have reported using just about every vendor imaginable from AutoZone to Walmart. There are only two or three
battery
manufacturers in the US. Good luck.
I installed the WalMart EverStart
battery
, type MAXX-94R back in January. It cost $109.88 + tax and has a three year free replacement warranty. It is manufactured for WalMart by Johnson Controls.
It fit in the
battery
box like original equipment and has been working fine so far.
I'm curious. Would you allow Wal-Mart to install the
battery
?
I would not be comfortable with that, but the installation is an easy do-it-yourself job so I put it in myself.
It took a 13mm, 6 point socket on a 10" extension attached to a 3/8" drive ratchet. Also a small wrench to loosen the battery connectors. It also takes the physical strength to hoist the batteries in and out of the battery well without banging them against the car. It wasn't that difficult.
my 07
cayman S
battery
finally bit the dust, i tried to kill it last year by leaving my radar detector plugged in for 3 weeks while it was covered and i was on travel, but this time it is shot. just went to autozone to pick up a H7-
AGM
but did not see the vent, is this important? is the walmart
battery
vented??
thanks.........
The WalMart
battery
doesn't have a vent. A DEKA brand
battery
(probably not the OEM) was in the car when I bought it in November and it had no vent either.
There is no corrosion or sign of leakage in the
battery
box so far, but I don't know what the long term effect might be.
Just put a
Duracell
49H in mine from sam's club, $89--has a vent and more cold amps than the OEM
battery
. It is however significantly larger (heavier) than the OEM
battery
, and I had to mod my
battery
tray ever so slightly.
I have an 07' C. I recently replaced the Original, OEM
battery
with one from Batteries Plus.
Battery
was a Deep Cycle Rayovac that has better cold amps for starting. The
battery
was a bit longer than the OEM
battery
so that required a slight adjustment of the
battery
tray before securing the replacement properly.
Battery
was about $135, but was also provided with a 3 year free replacement warranty.
EDIT:
The battery did come with a vent tube.
After replacement I received a few warning lights on the dash that cleared after driving for about five minutes and did not require a trip to the dealership to reset anything.
~cheers:cheers:
The
battery
I used from Autozone was the
Duralast
94R Gold, which a number of folks here recommended. Fits perfectly, comes with the vent tube. It was $144 with a $12 core charge.
EDIT: And, yes, the vent is critical. I wouldn't put in a
battery
with no vent tube.
As I said in this post, I probably would have gone with the Interstate, but I needed it ASAP and Autozone was both close and open on Sunday.

Has anyone tried the Sears Gold Diehard? I think the 94R size appropriate for the
Cayman
sells for $169.
Old thread but I didn't see the need to start a new one to pose my question. I was looking at a November '13 Consumer Report magazine and to match up what
battery
they recommend they ask you to find your "Group" first. My base '08
Cayman
battery
has already been replaced by the previous owner by a AAA
battery
so I can't tell what the correct Group is supposed to be. What "Group" is our OEM
battery
?
It is that time of year again, I guess. Group H7 on my brand new
battery
as of Sunday! About $175 for an
AGM
at Advanced Auto Parts.
Some day
Lithium
-Ion will be a reasonable price. Braile wants $2500, yes two thousand five hundred for a
battery
. I am not shaving 10th's off my lap times. I can spend money improving performance to make up for the added 40lbs and have $1500 left over for a new set of
tires
and then $400 still in my pocket. Just sayin'!
So OEM
battery
is Group H7 for base '08
Cayman
? I saw elsewhere it is Group 94 so now even more confusion. ADD: Looked on Batteries Plus web site and ran my make and model ('08 2.7) and it looks like it is 94R or H6. "SLI94RAGM
Battery
2007 to 2008 H6 2.7L 740CCA
Cayman
Porsche
Car and Truck" They carry
Duracell
with a 48 month warranty. Also they will check your old
battery
and installation is free.
AGM
runs $204 here. 51 pounds!
I put the H7 versus the H6 in my 2008
Cayman
. It's about an inch longer and the hold down clamp just has to be moved to the
next
hole. It already had a nut welded to that hole as well so it was easy as pie. It's a little more powerful too if I recall. Got it at Walmart and everything works fine and has for a couple years already. I think either H7 or H6 work fine.
RIP Moll. OEM
battery
in my 2008S finally died. Faithful
battery
tending helped extend it's lifetime far beyond expectation. Went to my
Porsche
dealer on Friday for a replacement and he recommended that I not go OEM. He installed an Interstate for me instead. Curious.
That lasted well. I got 5 years from mine before it died.
I think my OEM
Porsche
batttery finally bit the big one. Ive always had it hooked to a
Porsche
cigarette lighter
battery
maintainer, but after starting somewhat slowly the other night, after I ran into the supermarket and came out, it wouldnt crank over other than forcing my electronics in the car to do a nasty song and dance. Needed to call home for a jump to get the car back to the house. The
battery
charger adaptor connected to the outlet usually shows a red light when charging and no light when fully charged. Once I got the car home and plugged the
battery
charger back in, the red charging light went off after a few minutes. Obviously a
battery
that weak shouldnt charge back up that quickly so I think the cells have just died in the
battery
and theres not much left to charge.
I had the
Porsche
OEM
battery
replaced under warranty on 1/13/10 so Ive gotten nearly five years out of it. I drive about 6,000mi a year and always kept it on the OEM cig charger, so I think all things considered it gave me a good life.
I'll run down to AAP tomorrow and get a new one. Is there a way to keep some sort of power to the car while swapping batteries so I dont lose all my electronics settings. I have an aftermarket
Kenwood
Navi double din among other things and would hate to have to completely reprogram that thing. If its "SOP" for the boys down at AAP or Autozone to somehow keep power to your car while they replace it, Ill jump the car and take it down there dead so they can ensure I dont lose my settings. If not however, Ill just remove the
battery
myself and swap it.
Just leave the
battery
charger in the cig lighter while you swap.

I have one of those, I've had it for a few years. It fits perfectly, and I've had no problems with it.
Same here (though it's now called the H7), couldn't be happier. Car actually cranks like a modern vehicle now. Not the "nostalgia crank" of the
Porsche
battery
.
The
Battery
does have a vent hole though, which the oem hose hooked right up to.
Yep, I put in a Sears Gold H7 / 94R in my
2007 Cayman
a few months ago. Easy replacement and fit perfectly, including the vent hose. I didn't do anything to maintain power while swapping - didn't have any issues.
So I went to AAP and swapped out the
battery
. In terms of installation on a scale of 1-10, this was about a 2. Complete breeze. Just re-connect the vent, re-connect the + and -, reinstall the brace foot plate, and voila. TONS of room to get the
battery
in and connected. I figured it would be as hard as replacing it on my 930 which is nothing but a giant slew of mo' fo'ing the thing for an hour to try to do the magic twist to get a larger square peg into a smaller round hole.
OK one problem. The car starts and runs fine. My
Kenwood
Navi seems to hold settings. But my gauge cluster is totally dark. Nothing. Needles dont work either. I can turn the lights on and use the signals, but no clicks on the signals.
Im sure there some song and dance I have to go through to get these back functioning, but I need to do what it is. I drove the car around the block. Re-started it. Put windows up and down. Couldnt get the gauges to come on.
Help.
Ended up checking the fuse box in the driver footwell. Instructions said instrument cluster was slot B-1 (15 amp fuse). For grins I pulled it and it looked perfectly fine to me. The wire between the prongs didnt look burnt out. I replaced it with a spare in the fuse box and that did the trick to my surprise.
On another note, someone stole the little plastic fuse
puller
tool out of my fuse box. Arrghh!! Had to resort to needle nose. Gonna buy a cpl extra fuses of each kind to replenish the spare slots in the box.
Crisis averted. No other errors on the dash other than my CEL which I get all the time for my Remus.
I'm going
battery
shopping this week, my
battery
is already four years old, car has 44K on clock, so better now than later. I see many writing H7 and H6......I went to Interstae site, H6 comes up.... There are three models one has 750 cold cranking amps and 18 month replacement, the other has 900 cold cranking amps and 24 month replacement , the last one has 730 cold cranking amps and 30 month replacement.....opinions?
I don't want to modify tray, and I'd like
battery
to have connection for vent hose. Anyone have experience with Interstate? Or should I go Sears?
Can't comment on interstate. Autozone had multiple listings from H6 to H8. First to come up was H7. This matched all the other posts I'd followed.
Long story short the H7 was a dead nuts match to the Moll that was OEM in my 2008.
Just went Autzone site, says my
battery
is an H8! Land of confusion! Lol!
We have an
Interstate battery
Center here in Sarasota and that is the only place I've gone to get car batteries for the last 5 years for all of my cars. They are top notch and have a great
battery
's.
