It's a funny old world, they have probably got to pay for it out of the massive sales margin on the deal, car needs MOT so factory warranty gone and used warranty doesn't start until deal completes.

They immediately said they would do away with waiting for a software update and would replace the entire cluster...

A bit of give and take can go a long way to nurturing a good customer/dealer relationship (they did a brake fluid change for me free of charge later).

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
18 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Chaps,
I purchased a Macan 3 weeks ago (paid in full 2 weeks ago). Just before delivery, the car went in for a MOT and apparently it flagged up the need for a software update. They tried to update it, but it failed. Porsche then advised them that there was a freeze on this update and as consequence, the car could not be delivered.
The dealer mentioned that PCGB was actively trying to get a resolution. I called PCGB yesterday and they were not aware of it, but said they would look into it and call me back – they did not…
At this point, I am loathed to have to unwind the deal and start looking for another car, so is there anything else I should be doing to expedite this? Could I reasonably request a loan car (keeping in mind the dealership is at the other end of the country)? Is anyone else aware of this problem?
Thanks in advance for your thought.
Rog
Most definitely, they should have offered you a loan car there and then if your new car, which you only collected a few weeks back is already off the road.
I once bought a new boxster which ended up having a nosey roof from new, the porsche dealership put me into a brand new porsche Panamera and on the second attempt to fix it a brand new Cayman. Not once did I have to ask for a loan car.
Is the car you bought new or used?
If it needed an MOT, it must be used?
If it's that much of a problem I'd find another. Plenty of cars out there unless this happens to be unicorn spec for you.

Yes, the car is new to me, but 3 years old. I have not seen the car, as I bought it over the phone.
Many thanks
You only have a small window to reject the car, I would be asking for my money back if a like for like loan car isn’t offered straight away.
Don’t delay, act quickly otherwise it will cost you and take the enjoyment out of the car.
I am not sure time is an issue here. The OPC has not delivered the car….if they’d delivered it and a few days later then I think that’s a different issue. They’ve simply failed to fulfil the contract in this case so wishing your rights to cancel with full refund. Maybe even compensation because they’ve had your money….
Sometimes there can be small delays when delivering a used car. It happened to me with my GT4...the final prep took longer than expected but as the car wasn't a daily driver, I was happy to wait a few extra days before collection. A bit of give and take can go a long way to nurturing a good customer/dealer relationship (they did a brake fluid change for me free of charge later).
However, if the Macan is your daily driver I guess this will be more of an inconvenience in your case Rog. In which case I am sure they could arrange for a decent loan car to be delivered to you to tide you over if you ask them...it just might not be a Macan.

Why would the MOT flag a software update, surely thats not an MOT item?
I agree, it makes no sense this was picked up during the MOT, but this is what I have been told: "Instrument cluster warranty campaign has failed - PCGB are aware of the issue and have put a stop on centres carrying them out"
When I checked on Porsche's recall portal, nothing was outstanding. I am not suggesting they are being dishonest, it just does not make any sense to me.
Many thanks

If there's a waring light on the dash I thought this was an MOT failure?
Just ask for your money back, the thought of handing money back to a customer will be so traumatic all the issues will magically disappear.
Anyway why would a MOT reveal the need for a software update, sounds like bulls
tting going on somewhere.
Reading some of the comments it sounds like the OPC broke it applying the update and now it wouldn't pass an MOT so Porsche said don't break any more as we don't know why it broke it!

I did just that on Friday. They immediately said they would do away with waiting for a software update and would replace the entire cluster...

Hope you get it sorted and because pedantry matters I presume you don't really mean the Porsche Club of Great Britain (PCGB) OP?
Thank you. No, PCGB, as in Porsche Cars Great Britain.

Why did they not just offer this when they knew they had a delay issue with the software!

Cheaper to let the customer wait until you pulled their chain, shows how little they think treating a customer fairly matters.

Entire cluster? You won’t get it with 0 miles on the clock will you and a note in the service history saying cluster changed?
