It sounds like the VTG plays a big part in how the 997 Tip takes off and changes between gears and is the key to making it faster.

Or - is there a subtle other difference I'm missing like gear ratio changes between models etc?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Everyone I've noticed that the MB-sourced TipS (5spd) box in the 996TT results in the official 0-62 times (and 0-100) being slower than the manual. The 997TT (early, pre PDK) also had a 5spd TipS box but was faster than the manual to 62 and 100. Is the 997TT TipS box the same one as in the 996TT and if so, is there any software / updates available for the 996TT to get it to match the 997TT and make it faster than the manual? Or - is there a subtle other difference I'm missing like gear ratio changes between models etc? Cheers

POST 2Original post

I have a good Porsche Q&A which explains why the 997Tip is quicker than the manual 0-60. Here is the quick explanation, but if you would like the whole thing, drop me a PM with your email address.

POST 3Original post

0.3 seconds faster than the manual supposes that the manual driver gets it absolutely right from the off and hits each gear change on the button, if not the Tip will pull ahead even more. In the Tip it is much easier to get the times as you have less to do...just hang on and enjoy the ride :thumb:

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

very interesting stuff. So is the gearbox hardware actually the same? It sounds like the VTG plays a big part in how the 997 Tip takes off and changes between gears and is the key to making it faster.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
