Guys this is gonna sound strange but since this is happened a few times now i thought i should post this odditie, why doesnt my key remote work when im in the city but when i leave the city it works fine???? I had to manually lock/unlock the car all day again and i set off the alarm a couple times too. Yes i know i should contact dealer but i know it will work if they test it since they are not located in the city. has this happened to anyone else...it wasnt humid at all and the key wasnt dropped in water or anything...
I'm guessing interference from something else. If you haven't tried parking in a slightly different location (or a totally different location), I'd try that first before taking it to the dealer.
Good luck!

That's happened to me a few times over the winter whenever my car is parked for over a week. It's as if the key lost power, I then open it manually which sets off the alarm, yet the remote can defeat the alarm. No explanation......is the
battery
in the key fob a rechargeable?....that recharges when in the ignition switch? I thought of this because
BMW
's keyless start remote requires charging via ignition switch once in a while.
The problem you describe is a little different and is a normal function (described in the manual):
"The remote-control standby function switches off after 7 days
If the vehicle is not started or unlocked with the remote control within five days, the remote control standby function is switched off (to prevent discharging of the car battery).
1. In this case, unlock the driver’s door with the key at the door lock.
Leave the door closed in order to prevent the alarm system from being triggered.
2. Press button 1 on the remote control.
The remote control is now activated again."
thanks guys for your response. im "guessing" its some sort of interference, but i was in various locations in the city and it wasnt working the whole day so i really can't figure out what was the cause. Thanks again.
Hi guys,
Newbie on here.
Just found a problem with my 2002 C4 where the alarm fob would only work when i was about 2 feet from the windscreen sensor.I tried a new
battery
in the fob but still the same so tried the spare and that also did the same thing. This had been going on for a few weeks so i thought maybe something was intefering with it.Turns out my
IPOD
fm transmitter which is plugged into the ciggie lighter was the cause, unplugged it and the fob works from miles away now.Hopefully that may help.
When was the last time you replaced the
battery
in the key? If it's weak it might work fine with no interference, but not have enough signal to overcome interference in areas "congested" by everything from transmitters to electrical transformers.
Neither of our Porsches' remotes work when the cars are parked in the garage bay
next
to our home electrical service panel. Odd. No other cars have ever had an issue.
You are a star!
My remote was working only at very close range, near the driver's window or inside. Fine, the
battery
was years old so i replaced it, and the one in my other fob as they come 2 / pack ...
Both stopped working and I spent several bad hours going down the rathole of resetting/resyncing the remote to the car, poking with the durametric and having a generally crappy time.
I found this post and remembered I'd recently bought a new fm modulator ... The old one would really be off when it was shut down, the new one stays on enough to blank the selected fm frequency. I pulled the modulator and both remotes work at the distance I'm accustomed to.
Thank you.
